Today I worked with some great ladies to summarise our thoughts about spelling after ready Misty's article. A repertoire approach covers all types of linguistic knowledge.
@wordtorque @TasGovEducation Thanks for sharing your knowledge over the last few years @wordtorque. You have empowered me (and my students) to go exploring. We love talking about words
Determining Importance strategy- The students are Identifying the difference between details and big ideas. One of our first tasks is to identify what a detail is and the difference between a detail and a big idea.#comprehensionstrategies
Finding little words inside big words can often be misleading when Ss are trying to analyze words. You have to guide them to think of the rel’ship between base & complex word. This Ss thought (taxi) cab was the base but what does it have to do with a cabinet? #orthographicinquiry
#orthographicinquiry sparks thinking. Inquire, quest, inquisitive, query all derive from L. quaerere: to seek to learn, strive mentally. Synonyms past & present also reflect the intellectual act of inquiry:investigate, underseek, insee, sleuth. Inquiry is active, never passive.
A long holiday week coming up. What to do? Read READING THEORY! It's fun! It's exciting! 🙃 Here's @KellyBCartwrig1 & my article on an accessible model of reading, plus an article on implications of the model for practice & policy.
