To his credit, most essays they have you write in school are super boring. I always found them intolerable - and most students were just doing some version of ChatGPT to spam reasonable sounding sentences to hit the minimum number of pages.

Nobody ever told me that writing is a skill worth honing once you have something to say, to spread an idea or persuade, or clarify your own thinking. This made enjoy writing more as I discovered this in my 20's.

For this purpose, using the fewest number of words/sentences is best to be clear, whereas in school they accidentally taught us to be verbose to hit a minimum page requirement.

Why does the sunlight come from the north in shaded relief maps?

The sunlight in this map comes from the upper left, but in the northern hemisphere the sun mostly occupies the southern half of the sky, so why isn't it coming from below?
