In Pakistan, thousands of electricity workers held rallies in 13 cities against the government's plan to privatise power distribution companies (DISCOs). Abdul Latif Nizamani, President of All Pakistan WAPDA Hydro Electric Workers Union said the government's reliance on IMF directives is putting workers' jobs and energy security at risk, and that the protest movement will widen if demands are not met.
In Australia, PSI affiliate ETU addressed the National Press Club in Canberra, making the case for "Sovereign Power" β a publicly-owned renewable energy entity to power Australian industry. ETU National Secretary, Michael Wright, said a future made in Australia must be powered by Australia.
Unions in both the countries have one shared message: energy is too important to leave to the market.

WORKERS SUCCESSFULLY DEFEND GENDER EQUALITY AT THE INTERNATIONAL LABOUR CONFERENCE!
Maddy Northam, PSIβs LGBTIQA+ Coordinating Committee co-chair, CPSU ACT Regional Secretary and ACTU representative, was a key figure in the tripartite drafting committee that successfully preserved gender equality as a human right and commitments to intersectionality at the International Labour Organization this week in Geneva.
The ILOβs first discussion on gender in the workplace in years risked having gender equality severely undermined by the Trump administration and its right-wing ally, Argentinian President Javier Milei.
Thankfully, Maddy and her PSI colleague Florence Taruvinga, head of the Energy Sector Workersβ Union of Zimbabwe (ESWUZ), were able to work alongside progressive governments and other committed worker delegates at the ILO to defend equality and human rights, standing up for the worldβs public sector workers β 70% of whom are women.

Represented KMPDU at the Gender Equality and Leadership Workshop hosted by Public Services International @PSIglobalunion
The workshop focused on advancing womenβs leadership within trade unions. We engaged in discussions on practical strategies to strengthen womenβs leadership, participation and representation across union structures.
During the workshop, we identified several key action areas for our union:
β’Development of a KMPDU Gender Policy.
β’Establishment of a KMPDU Gender Desk.
β’Inclusion of gender balance and affirmative action provisions in the ongoing KMPDU constitutional reforms.
β’Incorporation of key provisions in the CBA : Occupational Safety and Health, anti-harassment measures and gender equality protections among others.
We look forward to advancing these initiatives and strengthening womenβs power, influence and leadership within our union structures.
