The brush fire in the park's woodland Ravine is now extinguished. According to @FDNY, the fire engulfed a roughly two-acre area. We thank FDNY and its sister agencies who responded quickly to get the fire under control.
Friday night, the FDNY responded to a call of a brush fire in Prospect Park. Approximately two acres of extremely dry vegetation in the park ignited among heavy wind gusts. The FDNY battled the blaze for more than three hours.
This has been a historically dry time for New York City and more than 100 brush fires have occurred this month alone.
Firefighters operated overnight to extinguish the blaze and remain on scene with a watch line as a precaution.
NYC is under an and air quality health advisory. Sensitive groups should consider taking precautions.
