ðš CRITICAL PLAYSTATION SECURITY ALERT: An Ongoing Family Management Exploit May Put Player Accounts at Risk!
Unauthorized child accounts can reportedly be added to a PlayStation family without the Family Managerâs consentâand the manager may be unable to remove them or leave the family!
Is your PSN account at risk? Sony must investigate immediately! @PlayStation
--------
**1/7 â URGENT: PlayStation Family Security Issue**
An account-security vulnerability reportedly allowed unauthorized child accounts to be added to PlayStation Network (PSN) family groups without the family managerâs consent.
Although the vulnerability was reported and marked resolved, a critical problem remains.
**2/7 â Unauthorized Accounts Remain**
Unauthorized child accounts added through the reported vulnerability may still be linked to affected usersâ families.
The immediate concern is that family managers cannot independently remove these unwanted child accounts through the available family management controls.
This must be addressed urgently.
**3/7 â Family Managers Need Control**
Why canât the family manager remove an unauthorized child account from their own family?
PlayStation must update its Family Management system to provide a secure, direct way for family managers to remove suspicious or fraudulently added child accounts.
Account owners should not be left powerless to manage unauthorized entries in their own families.
**4/7 â A Serious Account-Security Concern**
The inability to remove unauthorized child accounts leaves affected users without a straightforward way to clean up their family groups.
Depending on the underlying vulnerability and any remaining access, this could create ongoing privacy and account-security risks, potentially including exposure of personal information or account takeover.
Sony must investigate each remaining risk and provide an effective remediation.
**5/7 â Potential Exposure of Personal Information**
The reported vulnerability was associated with the potential exposure of PSN usersâ private email addresses and full names.
The original report also raised concerns about unauthorized purchases and transaction histories potentially being abused in account-takeover scenarios.
Sony must clarify what data and accounts were affected, whether any risk remains, and what protective measures are available to users.
**6/7 â Immediate Action Required**
Sony and PlayStation must urgently:
⢠Add a secure option for family managers to remove unauthorized child accounts.
⢠Review and remove fraudulent child accounts linked through the reported vulnerability.
⢠Notify affected users and provide clear remediation instructions.
⢠Verify that the original vulnerability is fixed and that related attack paths are closed.
Security fixes must protect existing victims, not just prevent future exploitation.
**7/7 â Sony, Please Address This Urgently**
PlayStation users must be able to secure and manage their own family groups.
Leaving unauthorized child accounts in place without giving family managers a way to remove them is unacceptable.
Sony must update the Family Management system immediately and provide affected users with a reliable way to restore control over their accounts.

Sony Network Communications says unauthorized access on October 19 exposed roughly 2.58 million member records from So-net and plala.
The leaked data covers names, phone numbers, emails, user IDs, birth dates, and gender. Bank account details were also taken in 16 cases, and email passwords for about 54,000 addresses were compromised. Credit cards were not affected. The company stopped the targeted server and blocked the source after confirming the breach on October 23.
Most of the risk sits in the personal data, not the bank details. That volume of names, emails, and phone numbers makes phishing and account recovery attacks the more immediate problem. Sony Network is contacting affected users while it investigates the cause. Services remain online.

Sony's family sharing has a stranger problem.
Hackers are adding fake "child" accounts to people's PlayStation Family groups, and victims say no password or 2FA stopped them.
Sony says it's investigating.
Pull your card off PSN tonight.
The $5,000 report highlights how support recovery can undermine login security: purchases by planted child accounts led to main account handovers despite 2FA or passkeys. Those remaining child accounts still need attention
Per the researcher, this never broke 2FA or passkeys. Purchases on a planted child account were enough for support to hand over the main account. Support recovery is the weak spot, and the patch doesn't remove accounts already planted. Worth checking your PSN family list
