My article in Hindu on how human-relevant models can provide us with crucial insights on understanding how the SARS-CoV-2 affects human organs which can further direct us towards potential therapeutics @AIC_CCMB@BioMed_21

2024 wasn't just the warmest year on record.
It was the moistest year on record, too.
Atmospheric moisture was above average for 86% of Earth. A warmer planet is a wetter planet.
The trend is unmistakable:
For the last 3 yrs NTSE exams conducted by ncert (which would cost around 40cr) has not been conducted on the grounds that expenditure on scholarship should be controlled. https://t.co/EKB90kBRaj, For the best experience read this on The Hindu App. https://t.co/V52T7foeoI
If you are a researcher working on in vitro or complex in vitro models, such as #iPSC, #organoids#organonchip#3dprinted organ, do take this survey! It aims to understand peer review expectations during the submission of #invitro data during a research paper or #grant submission
Have reviewers of manuscripts or grants asked you for #animal data even when it wasn’t scientifically justified? 🐁 🇮🇳
@HSIGlobal/India, in collaboration with @IndiaBioscience and @AIC_CCMB
is conducting a survey to understand #peer reviewer expectations and requests for animal-based research methods and authors’ perceptions of these requests.
💉 India recently abolished an outdated test in use for over 50 years to prove the safety of veterinary vaccines. The Target Animal Batch Safety Test involved injecting high doses of vaccines into animals to observe their reactions.

US @NIH_CommonFund recently declared a $390 million program to develop human-relevant methods. In this article, Ami Mehta-Doshi and I write about how focused funding is required to build confidence and accelerate the development of #humanbiology-based test methods

@BhatiaRohit10@NIH_CommonFund Yes for pesticides it has been acceptable since 2017 guidelines and for drugs since 2023. But like the article says we need to build confidence in these methods via successful case studies, guidelines, capacity building, all of which requires funding. Regulation is just 1 angle.
@BhatiaRohit10@NIH_CommonFund With the Amendment to New Drugs and Clinical Trial Rules last year, technically non animal methods data is acceptable for preclinical testing for drug safety and efficacy in India also. But we need dedicated programs to develop and build confidence in these systems
Had an interesting session moderating @IndiaBioscience’s #yihuddle on #sciencepolicy. Great points and discussion by @TheNaikMic and the participants. If you missed it, do check out the YouTube recording below!

@_KarishmaK@the_hindu@IndiaBioscience I am always surprised how organisers don't see the issue in that. And happy you raised this point (which theoretically should be a no brainer)! It may seem like a very small issue but it highlights the systemic mindset. As you can see, it is one of my pet peeves!
"When human genome was sequenced in 2001, many thought it would prove to be an ‘instruction manual’ for life. But the genome turned out to be no blueprint. In fact,most genes dont have a pre-set function that can be determined from their DNA sequence" https://t.co/OVTGjLIqbc
