An Israeli committee has advanced a proposal that would permit the death penalty for Palestinian prisoners, moving the bill closer to a full vote in parliament.

The draft law, pushed by National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir’s far-right Jewish Power party, would allow Israeli courts to sentence Palestinians convicted of killing Israelis on what it calls nationalistic grounds.

The legislation excludes Israelis who commit similar crimes against Palestinians.
