In the last two months, I gained more than 170,000 new followers! 100k on X and 70k on TikTok. So, allow me to introduce myself to new followers:

I am a 30-year-old writer who moved to Sweden 9 years ago as a refugee from Yemen. Moving from one of the most conservative and traditional Muslim countries to one of the most liberal and secular countries in the world has been eye-opening and life-changing, to say the least.

Religiously, I am still trying to find myself. I was a religious Muslim for 20 years, and then became an atheist, and then back to God in the form of naturalistic pantheism. None of this matters, my religious and spiritual journey are my own to make.

The problem here is I would be killed in Yemen and 11+ Muslim countries and jailed in most other Muslim countries, for not subscribing to mainstream Islam.

If I were to write "I am an Atheist Muslim," in Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Qatar, etc.

I would get the death penalty.

This Islamic dogma is my enemy. On a personal level, it wants my blood. On a societal level, it wants the whole world to submit to it. And we see this happening everywhere.

I do not belong to any political party or any movement. I am neither ”right-wing” nor ”left-wing.” But due to my criticism of Islamic culture – the culture I grew up in – and the unregulated migration from Muslim countries to Europe, I am often stamped as ”right-wing,” or in a few insidious cases, ”far-right.” When in reality, I had always identified myself as left-leaning.

In Yemen, I called myself a ”hardcore feminist,” for obvious reasons; women in my country are treated as kitchen-bound baby-making machines who should be covered and hidden.

When I moved to Sweden, I thought that this immense violation of women would be a obvious major concern to Swedish feminists. But I came to realize that Swedish feminists don't care about Arab and Muslim women who are gravely oppressed and silenced.

They care about pronouns, the "wage gap," and gender-affirming therapy. Their fight is not my fight.

I grew up to the image of my beautiful mother, who encompasses what a real feminist should be like. To many Yemenis, she is a ”whore who doesn’t wear the hijab and is trying to destroy Islam.” To me, she is my hero.

On one hand, she took care of three children on her own. On the other hand, she earned a Master’s degree, and a Ph.D., and ran Yemen’s most impactful women’s rights non-governmental organization – all at the same time. She made me realize that women are more than baby-making machines.

Around 3 months ago, I decided to start making videos and content in English, but I had no idea that my videos would reach so many people like they did.

I've received a lot of hate, but the overwhelming response has been incredibly positive. I am even more happy to hear so many progressive Muslims and ex-Muslims who live in Muslim countries reach out to me saying: ”Thank you for saying things we wish we could openly say.”

Lastly, I want to thank you all for your kind words, for liking, sharing, following, and supporting my voice. I appreciate it greatly. 2024 will be full of content.
