Library staff celebrates R.E.M.'s "It's the End of the World and We Know it (and Feel Fine)" in book form.
This was an absolutely delightful watch. 🤓
R.E.M.’s Document was released 39 years ago yesterday.

The name Lake Ontario comes from the Wendat word Ontari’io, which, appropriately, means “the lake is beautiful, the lake is big”.
The name is more than 400 years old, predating both the Confederation of Canada and the Declaration of Independence of the United States of America.
We know that America is changing. Their trading relationships, their foreign policies, their national monuments, their hydronyms.
Canadians also know that naming reality means calling it Lake Ontario – then, now and always.
For the first time yesterday, I experienced the new @alamodrafthouse QR code ordering system and I can tell you it’s truly awful. Rather than making ordering food and drink more efficient, it actually adds steps to the process AND if you want to order additional items during the film you HAVE to open your phone. No, your cute reference to that irony in your How To Alamo video doesn’t negate how ridiculous this is. Please don’t cut corners with your staff and revert back to physical menus and order cards.
This reminds me of the Thomas Sowell quote: "People will forgive you for being wrong, but they will never forgive you for being right—especially if events prove you right while proving them wrong".
Also, if you’re that asshole hare and your close friend is married to someone with a tortoise in the extended family (“one of the good ones!”, no doubt), I dare you to use the phrase “fucking slowpoke tortoise” to their face. You, inevitably, will always be a loser.
Been trying to figure out why the R-word as a slur, back again in popular parlance (on both sides of the political spectrum, for sure), feels so perplexing and ugly to me. The coarseness and laziness aside, its use no longer achieves the intended shock value hoped for.
But it also reveals a warped view of moral judgement, the things that can and cannot be controlled at the center of a slur. To borrow from Aesop, it’s like one hare calling another hare “a fucking slowpoke tortoise” as a mic drop.
Paywalling the SINGLE reason most people go to @pitchfork, when their scores will be widely shared on social media and AI will pull full reviews seems short-sighted to outright crazy. P4K is going the way of the dodo, or @RollingStone
