The beams at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (Victoria Terminus) still carry inscriptions “FRODINGHAM IRON & STEEL CO LTD ENGLAND” and “CARGO-FLEET-ENGLAND.”

This steel was produced between 1904 and 1912. The firm’s ironmaking history dates back to the 1860s.

It might be grubby and a little rusted today, but look closely and you’re looking at steel that has witnessed more than a century of Mumbai’s history.

A remarkable testament to the engineering of another era.
