Pune River Revival is a citizens' movement to revive and rejuvenate our rivers, led by dedicated ecologists. Follow to ensure we have clean and healthy rivers!
🧵PMC Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram (@navalMH) has informed the Times of India that 8.8 km of the remaining, unbuilt stretch of the RFD — between Wakad and Aundh — will be redesigned, with construction on hold until the new design is finalised.
The commitment follows a site visit on Wednesday with citizens including @PuneRivers and @SVYadwadkar, alongside Rajya Sabha MP Medha Kulkarni and PMC and PCMC officials, where concerns were raised including alleged alteration of the river's cross-section and unanswered complaints from April.
Bipin Shinde, who heads the project for PMC, said the stretch will be re-surveyed by environmental experts and consultants in light of the heritage trees, biodiversity-rich spots, and natural streams flowing into the river that were pointed out during the visit.
He said PMC will try, wherever possible, to retain old trees and incorporate natural streams into the design. A draft is expected within a month, after which it goes to stakeholders for discussion.

5 rivers enter Pune, only 1 exits.
7 dams on upstream.
Rainfall to rise by 37.5% with more cloud bursts.
Topography of city is saucer shaped.
PUNE IS ONE OF THE MOST FLOOD PRONE CITIES.
In River Front Devp, PMC is reducing river width by 40%.
WHY?

The first admission from PMC that this cut paste model is damaging #Pune. There are still questions about the rest of the RFD project. Meanwhile kudos to @PuneRivers for their persistence in getting this much through and hoping that better sense will prevail about the rest of the project sooner than later!!!
NOTE - The State Govt's Water Department questions on RFD are still to be answered!
Thanks @Medha_kulkarni@navalMH@SVYadwadkar@ultra__sonic lots more to be done!

From a strict public benefit perspective, wouldn’t it be more beneficial to spend on bus lanes rather than a coastal road, this vanity road costs absurd amount of money and average Mumbaikar won’t even use that coastal road but everyone will use BEST buses!
Doesn’t mumbai deserve better?

Children Lifted in Poclain Bucket During Drain Cleaning, Video Sparks Outrage
A shocking incident from Ulhasnagar has triggered public outrage after a viral video showed several young children being made to sit inside the bucket of a Poclain machine during drain-cleaning work in Rajiv Gandhi Nagar.
The heavy machinery, reportedly engaged by a contractor working for the Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation, was seen lifting and swinging 4–5 children in the air, raising serious concerns about safety and negligence. Citizens have demanded strict action against those responsible for endangering the lives of minors.

While Earth gasps, we’re still:
Cutting forests faster than they grow back
Subsidizing fossil fuels
Dumping plastic into oceans
Treating “green” as optional
Extinction isn’t a meteor this time. It’s our daily choices + bad policy. #EndFossilFuels
The Himalaya's iconic Rhododendron is on the brink. 🏔️🌸
While climate change pushes it uphill, we are chopping it down for fuel, medicine, & "development."
Supporting insects, birds, entire forest ecosystems—and livelihoods for rural communities—the fate of Rhododendron is at stake.
If the Himalaya loses this flower, we lose a cornerstone of mountain life.
Conservation isn't optional. It's survival.
What will we protect first? 🤔

Arctic Ocean reaches tipping point that could be dire for marine life
Disappearing sea ice is letting more sunlight in the Arctic Ocean and boosting phytoplankton growth, now starving other parts of a crucial nutrient, a tipping point that could spell trouble for seals, polar bears and even commercial fish in north Atlantic.

#Map of NEEPCO Colony near Yazali, #Arunachal Pradesh showing area reportedly damaged by extreme rainfall, intense flooding, and debris flow today.
The colony sits near the meeting of a stream with the Ranganadi river (immediately above Ranganadi dam reservoir). It is unclear where the debris flow started.
Watershed area: ~17 sq km
Stream length: ~7 km
Maximum elevation drop: ~1,450 metres

Delhi’s air pollution story remains one of systemic failure. PM2.5 still averages 88 µg/m³; nearly 18 times the WHO guideline & construction & transport corridors continue to create toxic “red zones”. Also we cannot ignore that WHO standards haven’t been updated. Cleaner gases mean little when children are still breathing hazardous air on 99% of days.

It's very sobering to consider it's forecasted to rise to 44 degrees Celsius in some areas of France and up to 40 in the UK over the next few weeks and these are likely to be the coolest summers of the rest of our lives.
For our grandchildren, much, much worse is to come.
Continuous heavy rainfall in the Thenpennai River catchment areas has significantly increased the inflow to the Kelavarapalli Dam near Hosur, rising to 1,488 cusecs. While authorities have begun discharging surplus water to ensure dam safety, a major environmental hazard has triggered alarm downstream. Massive layers of toxic chemical foam can be seen floating on the Thenpennai River, sparking severe health and environmental concerns among local farmers and motorists. Residents are urgently calling on the Tamil Nadu pollution control authorities to investigate the source of the waste dumping and take immediate corrective action.

You cannot destroy a forest to create a forest.
The Central Ridge is a Reserved Forest, not a landscaping project. Ecological restoration means protecting native ecosystems, not clearing vegetation for themed attractions.
