re: condom tweet: do you remember in 2014 when all aftercare in fanfic had to include a warm wet cloth? and if you didn't write the warm wet cloth you received angry comments about it??

also one time i read a fic where character A put on a nitrile glove to finger character B.

@resurrection_3D i was thinking about that! i also think different regions/cultures probably have different expectations of safety based on the education around it and availability of condoms et al.

@sairascribbles yes definitely! i also enjoy the conflict that arises when that trust and intimacy develops too soon, and it goes up against "we met like, a week ago."

what's interesting also is that both safe sex and unsafe sex is part of the ideal. it's an ethical ideal to have the safest sex possible, but it's the fantasy ideal not to have to worry about safety at all. and we all approach fanfiction with a different concept of what's ideal.

i have no dog in this fight because even on the rare occasion i'm trying to write safe sex, it's still not safe, but i do find this topic interesting, because it speaks to the real-ideal spectrum and how we all have different expectations of a fic's relationship to reality.
