💢 “Why should a child filling up water die?”: Israeli attack kills four, including two children and a woman, in Gaza City

Eight others were also wounded in Tuesday’s attack in the Al-Katiba area of western Gaza City, where families had gathered to collect water.

“We were just sitting there, minding our business. Nothing was happening. The water tanker came, and we started filling up water, us and our children,” Faiza Al-Bahtini, the aunt of one of the children killed, told Drop Site’s Mohamed Ahmed. “Then we heard gunfire coming from every direction. After that, the vehicles came, the Israelis started bombing, and the massacre happened.”

The Israeli military claimed its special forces were targeting the head of Hamas’s internal security apparatus in Gaza and accompanying strikes were carried out to “remove threats.”

A resistance-affiliated security channel said the operation targeted a senior Hamas figure but was thwarted, while acknowledging that a security official was abducted. It said three “collaborators” who provided support and intelligence were detained. Members of Israeli-backed Palestinian militias were reportedly seen in the area during the attack.

“My nephew was martyred. His brother was wounded. Their mother was wounded too, covered in shrapnel and badly burned,” Al-Bahtini said. “Wherever we go, wherever we are displaced to, there is bombing around us. Where are we supposed to go?”

Abu al-Abd, an eyewitness who was filling water with his four children, said: “What is the crime of a child filling up water? … Because a child was filling up water, Netanyahu shot at him. What have these children done to you? Go and see for yourselves so you know we’re telling the truth. Go look at those killed. They’re all children.”

💢An elderly Palestinian woman has been hospitalized after Israeli settlers severely beat her near Ramallah in the occupied West Bank.

Fatima Muqattam and her husband, Wajih Hamdan, were attacked while trying to stop settlers from stealing their livestock in Burqa, east of Ramallah, Palestinian medical sources said.

A photograph from the hospital shows Muqattam with a bandaged head and severe swelling around one eye.

I do not know whether the world understands the scale of the disaster that is approaching Gaza, or whether anyone still cares about us at all. But a very serious catastrophe is coming, and the world must act before it is too late.

Winter is getting very close. More than 170,000 tents across Gaza are torn and worn out tents that have endured more than three years of displacement, extreme summer heat, strong winds, and heavy rain. These tents are no longer fit to protect a human being, so how can they possibly protect children and families through another winter?

Every winter brings the same disaster back to us: tents flood, water reaches where children sleep, and the cold consumes their bodies throughout the night. What we have lived through in previous winters will happen again, perhaps even worse this time.

There is no infrastructure capable of draining rainwater, and there are no safe places for people to go. Thousands of families are living inside destroyed and damaged buildings, which could be flooded by the rain or collapse on those forced to live inside them because they have nowhere else to go.

We urgently need caravans and temporary housing to be allowed into Gaza. We are not asking for luxury. We are asking for a dry and safe place that preserves human dignity and protects children from flooding and freezing temperatures.

Every season of the year has become a disaster for us, but the coming winter could be the worst of all. Do something before the rain begins—not after the tents have flooded and the world begins counting the victims.

Enough of treating our lives as if they do not matter. Enough of waiting for the disaster to happen before talking about it.
