We fired him this morning.

Burnout prevented.

Yes my mum was a teacher, she also had well paying side hustle selling clothes and my dad was also well off when we were young.

Then came 2007 post election violence, we lost everything, my mum akin to an IDP was part of the group escorted from Nandi hills with police escort to kiambu where she tried starting life again. My dad received a letter stating that if he doesn’t resign they are coming for our heads, all because we were from the wrong tribe.

I was young but I remember that day like yesterday, the fear and helplessness on your parents eyes is not something you easily forget.

We are not special but rather lucky, many people living in the Rift valley at that moment in time have a similar story, unfortunately some never made it out and paid with their lives. Most of them also still don’t want to talk about it to date, including my parents.

That’s why I say I have had everything and I have had nothing, thus don’t base your entire existence and value on money as it’s vanity, always ask yourself who are you without the money, if money is taken out of the equation will you be a shell of a man or your principles and integrity will see you stand tall above the crowd.

I have seen good times, I also have seen bad times, hence me saying use the bad times to prepare for good times and good times to prepare for bad times because nothing lasts forever. It’s not being a pessimist but our life perspectives are influenced by living experiences.

I should write a book one day, nime kapitia 😂
