President Trump is wrong to claim that NATO allies “stayed off the front lines” in Afghanistan.

As a former Afghan Deputy Minister of Defense and National Security Council official, I worked daily with US, British, Canadian, German, Danish, Polish, Italian, French and other allied forces. They did not sit in safe zones. They fought. They bled. They died.

NATO invoked Article 5 for the first and only time in its history after 9/11 to defend the United States. More than 50 allied nations deployed troops. Over 1,100 non-US NATO soldiers were killed. Tens of thousands were wounded. Many more returned home with lifelong injuries and trauma.

British, Canadian and Danish forces led some of the hardest combat operations in Helmand and Kandahar. German forces fought sustained insurgent battles in Kunduz. Polish troops operated in Ghazni. Italians held Herat. French troops conducted high-risk operations in Kapisa and Surobi. This was not symbolic participation. It was sustained frontline warfare.

Afghan forces did not fight alone. Coalition unity was real. Mixed patrols, joint bases, shared casualties and joint command structures defined the mission for two decades.

To suggest that America “never needed” NATO allies ignores basic reality. Intelligence sharing, logistics, airlift, medical evacuation, special operations coordination and regional basing all depended on allied contributions.

Undermining allied sacrifice does not strengthen America. It weakens the credibility of US leadership and erodes trust among partners who have repeatedly shown up when the United States called.

History is documented. The graves are real. The sacrifices were shared.

Facts matter.

Trump’s accusations that U.K. soldiers avoided frontline fighting in Afghanistan is insulting and disgusting. Over 450 U.K. troops died there. Considering he managed to dodge military service on many occasions you’d think he’d keep his mouth shut.

Saw Ozzy many times and he was phenomenal with both Sabbath and solo.
When he survived the 80’s I think we all thought he was immortal so this is really a big shock.

@BoomRadioUK I remember listening to John Peters on Radio Trent in the 70s on our old music centre. He had a brilliant way of making you feel he was just talking to you which a special talent. His voice was recognisably the sound of Nottinghamshire and will be much missed.

@ImWhaps @p2000_mr @POTFES The IF2 did a lot of damage in Birmingham UK in 2005. Multiple lost roofs and damage to walls. I think they were mainly brick built buildings.
