My salute to the Indian pilot Captain Smit Machchhar for his extraordinary bravery.
Despite being stabbed and seriously injured, he fought back, resisted, opened the cockpit door, and enabled passengers and crew to overpower the attacker — preventing a catastrophic mid-air disaster.
He saved the lives of 174 people, including Israeli citizens and other nationals.
I wish Captain Machchhar a speedy and full recovery.
He is a true hero.
One of the early things we did at Zoho was build our own cloud infrastructure to run our applications. From databases, identity and messaging to search, storage and compute, we built it ourselves rather than depending on AWS or Google Cloud.
We have opened this infrastructure to developers as Catalyst, our serverless platform. What started as a way to extend Zoho is now being adopted by developers outside the Zoho ecosystem as well.
We are investing heavily in Catalyst and making it free for students, so they can build and deploy real applications without worrying about infrastructure costs.
Our goal is to give developers the infrastructure to turn their ideas into real products.

Shall share my thoughts today on the poetics of emotive revelations/illuminations in poetry that builds on the resonances in the human consciousness and the word/world consciousness in Nature.

The Nanda Devi Raj Jaat is scheduled for 2027, while this year’s Nanda Devi Lok Jaat will be held from 5 to 25 September 2026.
And as the 2026 journey approaches, here’s a chance to look back more than five decades.
Watch the rare 1968 documentary footage of the Shri Nanda Devi Raj Jaat from the Films Division, Government of India.
The faces have changed. The roads have changed. The world around the pilgrimage has changed.
But the journey, the faith and the bond between Maa Nanda and the people of the mountains remain.
With 50 research projects across Bharat covering all 28 states and 5 Union Territories, ICSSR-supported research studies are examining the opportunities and challenges of India’s clean energy transition. This includes initiatives such as PM-KUSUM, PM Surya Ghar, rooftop solar, solar-powered agriculture, electric mobility, green skills, Janjatiya communities, and rural energy access, as well as green energy and entrepreneurship, solar waste management, and energy sovereignty.
These studies are also building social science capacities in addressing local realities for offering evidence-based insights into issues related to energy adoption, accessibility, livelihoods, sustainability, and public policy. This reflects ICSSR’s role in connecting social science research with national priorities, local realities, and evidence-based policymaking, generating knowledge that contributes to a more inclusive and sustainable energy transition.
Our research spans diverse geographies, from Ladakh, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and the North-East to Jharkhand, Odisha, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and beyond, reflecting India’s varied energy realities and incorporating diverse local perspectives into the country’s renewable energy discourse.
On this Akshay Urja Diwas, we reaffirm our commitment to advancing research for a greener, more resilient, and energy-secure India.

Happy to revive the Indian Social Science Review (ISSR), a Multidisciplinary journal of ICSSR, with a Special Issue on “Understanding India’s Demographic Shift: Trends, Transitions and Policy Perspectives.”
We invite researchers, academicians and social scientists across Bharat to contribute rigorous, evidence-based and policy-relevant research articles that can enrich India’s demographic discourse, inform policymaking and contribute to the vision of Viksit Bharat@2047.
India is witnessing a profound demographic transformation, driven by changing fertility, rising life expectancy, population ageing, migration, evolving family and marriage patterns, changing labour markets, and advances in education, health and technology.
These changes are not merely matters of population statistics; they are the key forces and factors shaping the future of Bharat, its families, communities, workforce, social cohesion, inter-generational relationships and development trajectory.
In the present context, informed and evidence-based demographic debates are essential to anticipate emerging challenges, understand their wider social consequences and develop policies that strengthen Bharat.
This Special Issue provides an interdisciplinary platform to examine the drivers, dimensions and consequences of India’s demographic transformation and their implications for family, society, economy, governance and national development.
