Three Pennsylvania officials said three different things about the measles deaths on Tuesday. Two were defensible. The governor’s was not. By Wednesday the HHS Secretary was calling the deaths fabricated. New essay on how that vacuum got built. https://t.co/9zRiexiB1o
MUST WATCH: @GovernorShapiro with an important message for Pennsylvanians:
"While measles is spreading rapidly here in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for the first time in over a quarter-century, this is one thing I'm counting on as a dad: If you're fully vaccinated, you're not getting the measles."
Pennsylvania needs to release the age or, at least the age ranges, of the 2 measles deaths in Lancaster County. By not doing so they are creating a vacuum that is being rapidly filled by anti-vaccine disinformation (including from elected officials). @GovernorShapiro@PAHealthDept
HHS and CDC extend their condolences to the families and communities affected by two measles-associated deaths in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. CDC is working closely with state and local health departments to strengthen response efforts, rapidly support affected communities across the state, and communicate the steps people can take to slow the spread of measles. The MMR vaccine provides the most effective protection against measles and helps prevent its spread. CDC will continue to follow Pennsylvania’s lead and provide resources to support the state’s response.
Gov. @JoshShapiroPA: Secretary Kennedy reached out to me this morning. I was very, very, blunt with him and I made very clear that his actions, and the rhetoric that's coming from this administration, are having a negative impact on communities across America. Sharing conspiracy theories and misinformation does not help the cause of public health.
The story of Lp(a) and oxidized phospholipids (OxPL) @OxPL_apoB continues to expand, beyond atherosclerosis and inflammation, and now into clot formation and clot strength.
In our new study in ATVB, Lp(a), OxPL-apoB and other OxPL biomarkers were linked to hypercoagulability and increased tensile clot strength, providing another potential mechanism into how Lp(a) may contribute to atherothrombotic risk.
Particularly intriguing is the connection among Lp(a) → OxPL → coagulation/fibrinolysis → stronger clot, and what this may mean as potent Lp(a)-lowering therapies move toward clinical practice.
Many thanks to my terrific co-authors and collaborators Paul Gurbel, Udaya Tantry, Kevin Bliden, William Ashley, and Young Hoon Jeong for making this work possible.
The biology of Lp(a) keeps getting more interesting. https://t.co/xwdkyDsRbp
