I can tell you, as someone who studies the past, that wars and conquest and heroism leave a legacy but not always a good one. Investment in the arts, in literature, in culture, in writing…. That’s what really cheats time and makes a difference. #DollyParton did that. Legend.
“If everyone tried a little harder, you know, to care about each other a little more and stop just bickering… around the world it would be so much easier.”
Dolly Parton has died aged 80. The legendary country singer spoke to #Newsnight back in 2019.
BREAKING: The carbon emissions from just two planned datacentres in England will exceed all of the fossil fuel company ExxonMobil’s UK emissions, analysis has revealed.

I feel I should post a #DollyParton tribute this evening, but I can’t think of a direct Ladybird connection.

Brexit didn’t put more British fish on British plates.
It left us with less fish and a bigger bill.
This year we imported 5,475 fewer tonnes of cod and haddock but paid £37 MILLION MORE for what we did buy.
LESS FISH.
MORE MONEY.
And the average fish & chips now costs £11.43 🆙 64% more than in 2021.
Look, says Chris Philp: 76% of social housing in an immigrant-heavy London neighbourhood is foreign-born!
What he doesn't say: the whole neighbourhood is 78% foreign-born. Private renters: 92%.
Also: 81% of those social tenants already hold UK passports. They are UK citizens.
Remember when they sold us the slogan, “Go paperless, save trees, save the planet”? Now we've gone digital, and it's consuming enormous amounts of water, destroying ecosystems, harming bees, and contributing to environmental damage on a scale paper never did.
What @vicgoddard
has done for his families and communities is second to none. His approach to inclusion has not led to the swathes of young people disenfranchised by education and school. School is way more than Mr Gove’s narrow measures. Play the ball rather than a balloon!
