Paper day! 🚨
Our review article is now published📜focusing on the current state and challenges with high Eddington quasars and how we as a community have been using them as discovery tools for studying the cosmological parameters of the Universe. Check the link 👇
Perhaps a helpful little graphic for those thinking about where to #publish in #astronomy and #planetaryscience, in the wake of yesterday's #MNRAS news... (let me know of any errors).
I'm super thrilled to announce a Research Topic I am leading with couple of fantastic co-editors with @FrontAstroSpace focussed on Broad band SEDs of #AGNs! We have already received some insightful abstracts and we are still looking forward to more from you 🌌🛰️💻 #BlackHole
NEW RESEARCH TOPIC! 🚀
A Research Topic, led by Dr. Swayamtrupta Panda (@quasar_panda) will explore recent developments on Broad-band AGN SEDs.
Abstract deadline is fast approaching!

Have you ever wondered what astronomical apparent magnitudes, color indices, absolute magnitudes, distance moduli, extinctions, attenuations, color excesses, K corrections, and bolometric corrections are? I wrote a thing about them all:

One good thing the pandemic did was to open the option for online participation. This was a step in the right direction esp. for those with limited financial means. Some conference organizers are going back to their money-first science-later approach.

And is the #blue#blend of the optical FeII emission #different from the #red blend? How much different? And what causes this difference from the #radio#quiet and radio #loud sources? (3/3)
We also show here - Which FeII template is better at fitting their optical spectra? Can the ionizing continua of these characteristically different sources help us understand them better? (2/3)

The recovery of the correct physical conditions in the BLR then suggests that - the BLR “sees” only a very small fraction (∼1-10%) of the original ionizing continuum originating in the vicinity of the supermassive black holes at the very centres of these galaxies! (3/3)
Paper day! A proof-of-concept study to use the collective power of photoionization modelling and reverberation mapping to better understand the physical conditions in broad-line regions of Type-1 active galaxies. (1/3)

Anyone have experience flying from EU to China recently (past month) or in coming few months, or otherwise understand the flight situation? If so, please respond or DM.
Thanks!
Look who has won the 2022 European Astronomical Society's Lodewijk Woltjer Lecture Prize award - My PhD supervisor Prof Bożena Czerny!!!

Check out the cool MATISSE image of the nearby AGN NGC 1068, now out in @Nature and today an @ESO press release! At a true imaging resolution of better than 1 pc, you can see the inner hot funnel of dust surrounding the super-massive black hole in this active galaxy. 1/
SARAO has released a new MeerKAT telescope image of the centre of our Galaxy, showing radio emission from the region with unprecedented clarity and depth. Read more: https://t.co/6s3aczEtB5 #MeerKAT#radioastronomy#heartofthegalaxy
