This year's John Bell Day Lecture is on 7 November.
In 1998 John Bell, a @QUBelfast alumnus – who had very warm memories of the physics department @QUBMathsPhys – was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Science for distinction as a theoretical physicist.

Our experts are on the hunt for exploding stars and hungry black holes.
Dr Matt Nicholl and Professor Stephen Smartt are part of a revolutionary new project that will obtain millions of new and detailed spectral observations of the sky over the next five years, capturing the light from cosmic objects in every individual colour.
“If we’re lucky, we may even find new kinds of stellar explosions! This will transform our understanding of how galaxies and black holes grow together and hopefully unlock some of the mysteries around our universe.” (Professor Stephen Smartt, Astrophysics Research Centre, @QUBMathsPhys)
