International reggae icon Jimmy Cliff has died, his family announced Monday.

In a post to his official social media pages, his wife Latifa Chambers said Cliff passed away after a battle with pneumonia which followed a seizure. He was 81.

The Dead Sea Scrolls: Evidence for the Bible’s Accuracy -

Discovered in 1947 in the Qumran caves near the Dead Sea, the Dead Sea Scrolls are considered one of the most significant archaeological finds of the 20th Century....

These ancient manuscripts, believed to have been written or preserved by a Jewish sect known as Essenes, include some of oldest known copies of the Hebrew Bible, dating back more than 2,000 years. Among the biblical texts found were substantial portions of Genesis, Deuteronomy, Psalms, and the entire book of Isaiah, providing critical evidence of the accuracy and preservation of Scripture over millennia.

Remarkably, every book of the Old Testament is represented in the scrolls except for Esther. Alongside the biblical texts, the scrolls also included non-canonical writings, such as the Book of Enoch and the Book of Giants. While these works explore themes like angels and ancient beings, they were never considered part of the inspired biblical canon, and biblical scholars, both ancient and modern, do not treat them as Scripture.

The discovery of the scrolls occurred by chance when a group of Bedouin shepherd boys were tending their flocks near Qumran. One of them, searching for a lost goat, threw a rock into a cave and heard pottery break. Investigating further, they found clay jars containing ancient scrolls. This accidental discovery launched a series of excavations that unearthed thousands of scroll fragments from 11 different caves.

Before the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls, the earliest complete Hebrew manuscripts of the Old Testament dated to around 1,000 AD. Critics claimed that the biblical text had been altered or corrupted over time. However, when the Dead Sea Scrolls were compared with the much later Masoretic Text (traditional Hebrew text), the consistency was striking. The scrolls showed that the biblical text had been faithfully preserved, with only minor variations that did not affect doctrine or content.

Following the Dead Sea Scrolls, other ancient manuscripts have been discovered, further affirming the Bible’s reliability. These include: The Cairo Genizah, The Masada scrolls and the Ketef Hinnom scrolls.

The Dead Sea Scrolls not only represent a monumental archaeological find, but they also serve as tangible evidence supporting the historical accuracy and divine preservation of the Old Testament Scriptures. Today, most of the Dead Sea Scrolls are housed at the Shrine of the Book in Jerusalem, where they are carefully preserved and studied. These ancient texts are a powerful testimony to the faithfulness of God in preserving His Word, just as the Bible itself claims (e.g., Isaiah 40:8 – “The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.”).
