#protectandswerve An offduty/unmarked car nearly 1: kills a cyclist 2: Nearly forces the orange car that cut him off into a collision with parked vehicles, and 3: nearly hits a turning vehicle then flashes his E-lights. Nice. @D00RZ0NE@TransAlt@StreetsblogNYC@NYPDnews
Why is my display name still painfully accurate. I set it like 2 years ago. This is just depressing. We need protected #bikenyc lanes yesterday. Drivers do not respect bike lanes, but they will respect a concrete barrier.
[...] Streets like they were drag strips. Then winter again. Now traffic is back to its usual self.
Feels good to be back to commuting by #bikenyc. Definitely noticed an uptick in cyclists during and after 2020, which warms my frozen heart.
... still riding with a camera tho.
First day back in the saddle after taking a hiatus winter 2019 to now. Decided that if even heated gloves and handlebar mitts together couldn't keep my fingers warm, maybe I'd sit winter out. Then covid hit, lock down hit, and everyone was driving down the relatively empty [...]
So my wife Heather hadnβt been able to ride her bike since having her sternum broken in a car crash 5 years ago (balance issues) - she made it her goal during #Covid_19 quarantine to get back to cycling. Took many attempts but she did it. So proud of her. #HamOnt#NeverGiveUp
@driversofnyc @secondsatellite I would sooner ride in Manhattan than the LI suburbs, and that's because I grew up in suburban suffolk. Speed limits are optional, as are stop signs.
Hey #bikenyc, is there a place where one with a bike can volunteer the community covid response? I'm ineligible until my (non-covid) cough stops, but once it does I'd like to know what's out there.
@Tellythecairn I don't even mean Yang in particular, I mean people mistreating/distrusting other Americans in general π people are way too eager to divide themselves into different camps when we're all in this together.
We are happy to announce our new Bike Buddies program.
Bike Buddies by #BikeTrainNYC is a volunteer crisis response project. With NYC city gov't encouraging more folks to commute bike to work during the COVID19 crisis, we would like to connect essential workers to bike buddies!
@carmen_bikes@LAShepard221@DonCycle People drive safer around me when I have my 3d camera mounted conspicuously and dorkishly atop my helmet like some accountability mohawk. Sadly I can relate.
@Tellythecairn@LAShepard221 I'll probably be taking the bike lane to work sometime this week (working from home but our industry is considered essential, and I'll need to pick up mail/supplies). Little bit concerned at the 45% spike in injuries but QB hasn't killed me *yet*
#BREAKING: NY, CT, NJ, and PA will temporarily close all barber shops, nail & hair salons, tattoo shops, & similar services in our four states effective tomorrow at 8PM.
These temporary closures are not going to be easy, but they are necessary to protect the public health.
