In 1982 a group of lesbians formed the Camden Lesbian Centre. The group went on to join forces with Camden Black Lesbian Group. In 1986 #Camden Council awarded the #Lesbian Centre a home on Phoenix Road. It was the UK’s only dedicated lesbian space for almost a decade🏳️🌈 #LGBTHM20
We're at @LGBTIQoutside all month and tomorrow we're hosting a queer zine workshop tomorrow 6-8pm. You can make a zine with us, make a page for our compilation zine, or just sit and read zines from the library there's absolutely no pressure to make, just come hang out ✂️💙✂️
An image from last week’s celebration for Gay’s the Word’s manager, Jim MacSweeney, marking his 30th anniversary working at the bookshop. This man’s kindness, tenacity and dedication has meant a sanctuary for the #LGBT+ community has endured, providing a safe harbour for us all!
Hey! Do you have an interest in:
• Museums & Local History?
• Archiving social history?
• LGBTQ+ culture?
• Being part of the community?
We’re looking for volunteers to join us from early January on our amazing project.
Perfect for queers, students and... everyone! 😍
We are the lucky ones to have a wonderful place like @gaystheword and it’s the staff that make it feel like HOME. Cheers to Jim and thanks for 30 yrs of exceptional love and friendship to the whole community 🌈WE ❤️U 🌈
