Thousands of people are tweeting at @KwasiKwarteng right now, demanding the government #StopJackdaw and introduce a windfall tax to invest in energy efficiency.

I expect binding commitments from @ParmesanUK to tackle key welfare shortcomings. Only a small percentage of your cows have access to pasture, many are likely tethered. Parmesan, #YouCanDoBetter! #NotOnMyPasta https://t.co/f8ghn29ysG
@GeorgeMonbiot Kind of incredible but also sad that so many of the responses to this thread are without irony using it to attack another faction of the left.
We’ve done some important work since the Paris Agreement was signed six year ago, but we’re still nowhere near where we need to be on climate. Watch live from #COP26 in Glasgow as I talk about the steps we can take to combat climate change. https://t.co/fpoGbnNehm
This is sobering news for Labour and should convince those with their heads buried in the sand that a progressive alliance is the *only* way Labour has even a sniff of a chance at the next election.
The draft boundary changes have been released and, unsurprisingly, they'd yet further entrench Conservative power.
The Tories would need a ~5% lead for a majority, whereas Labour would need a ~12% lead.
An alliance will be needed more than ever and is the only route to power.
@dasvee people but realising attitudes can be fluid. Recent polling suggests Tories losing nearly all the red wall seats they won in 2019, at least some of whom would be from this "authoritarian" grouping.
So ppl are persuadable, it's a question of getting the right message & messenger
@dasvee national security. Remember Blair's "tough on crime, tough on the causes of crime" slogan? Appealed to both left and right.
It also excludes other factors like the charisma/likeability of a candidate that can be a big factor in how people vote. Is not as simple as pigeonholing
This is v bad news for the climate ahead of COP. Someone needs to convince Joe Manchin the future of the planet is more important than his own pocket.
Or alternatively offer him more $ than he's currently getting from his fossil fuel interests...

So @sajidjavid has literally just *cancelled* his appearance at today's @RCGP annual conference.
I think if the Health Secretary is too scared to face the frontline NHS staff he bashes - and yet purports to lead - he really shouldn't be in post.
RT if you do too.
@MPrepuce @Bellagio_bound @AlanUrdaibay@MarinaPurkiss Yes exactly, & the above seems fairly reasonable actually.
If they did try to ban electoral pacts it would be v difficult to do in practice as parties can do things unilaterally. & main aspect of Blair-Ashdown pact was not to criticise each other in the media. Can't ban that!

@Neal_Compass@CompassOffice Need to have a pact to stand down candidates in each other's top target seats. Last election showed tactical voting and *hoping* local parties come to some form of agreement doesn't work. Farage standing down half the BXP candidates did work for the Tories though.
@Freedland With the right wing vote now consolidated behind one party, Scotland lost to Labour and current demographics Labour cannot get into power without some form of electoral pact.
@Freedland Interesting but misses the point somewhat. A progressive alliance is not about uniting highly educated voters. It is simply about the party with the best chance of beating the Tories in a particular seat being given a free run and not having the left vote split four ways.
@CharlotteAlter Why do you think they are doing this though? Just to avoid being primaried by a trump candidate? Surely they know it’s electoral suicide long term.
The government want to spend an extra £20,000,000 on each general election to make it harder for us all to vote. Sign @electoralreform's petition to stop the government’s expensive plans #SayNoToVoterID https://t.co/1IRA6rF3Ss
