As part of #MoreLifeEmpowerment, our family created an initiative where we made 40 care packages and distributed them around South London to the homeless. In times likes these, it is important that solidarity extends to all members of our communities.
I saw this today and it really caught me cold. A sad illustration of life for so many of our most complex, vulnerable young people. The best thing, however, is that by going upstream and being the early intervention solution, we stop being the problem further down the line.
#35 - “Slavery wasn’t that bad in the grand scheme of things”; “colonialism can actually be beneficial for the subjected countries - take slavery for example”
#32 - One time I was waiting at the bus stop, sitting next to my 2 white friends, after school to go home, and an old white man walked past and directly looked at me and said “don’t any british kids go to your school anymore” and spat at me. I was 16 at the time.
We didn’t say anything because it puts you in an uncomfortable situation and we felt powerless to speak out, but being older now (20 years old) I really wish I did./3
#31 - Me (a brown pakistani girl) and my black friend were applying for jobs together in year 12. we were going to shops on sutton high street with our CVs and we were aware that Dorothy Perkins was hiring and went into the shop where there were 4/5 white women who worked there/1
we were standing together and asked them if we could apply for work and they looked us up and down and looked at one another then told us they weren’t hiring despite their website and shop window it said they were./2
Oxford University has repeatedly failed to tackle the systemic racism at the heart of the institution. Alongside other student groups, community activists, and academics, we have written an open letter calling for long overdue change.

#30 - I got suspended from school because a girl said I bullied her and the teachers justified it by saying ‘well, you do look intimidating’. The girl made my life hell and when I said she was actually bullying me, nothing happened.
#29 - Have been targeted in school or in public areas because of race, especially with racist remarks. Also have alot of trouble at immigration and go through extra searches and get detained
#28 - I feel like sometimes when telling white people my name, they make comments like ‘oh that’s such a cool exotic name’ or ‘that’s unusual’. I know they don’t mean it offensively, but sometimes I want to reply: ‘actually no, it is a very common name for an Asian girl.’
The extent to which Brits think the UK is a racist society:
Very racist: 8%
Fairly racist: 44%
Not very racist: 36%
Not racist at all: 6%
