@RadhaStirling@TRobinsonNewEra He’s on trial for 2 counts of harassment causing fear of violence against MailOnline reporters Andrew Young & Jacob Dirnhuber.
Fear is an element of this offence, but it isn't the whole case. It’s his conduct that matters. The Protection from Harassment Act is hardly new.
@RadhaStirling UK law applies strict liability for coverage that creates a substantial risk of seriously prejudicing the trial and can be punished, whatever the intent. This won’t be shared in court, so it won’t prejudice his trial.
This is British tabloid news. It’s no surprise.
@RadhaStirling Why? Harvey Weinstein went on trial in 2020 and was convicted for cases, including one as early as 2006. There isn’t and should never be a statute of limitations on crimes against women.
Brand’s trial was investigated by the Metropolitan police resulting in a case by the CPS.
@PolitlcsUK Reform's internal probe isn't independent. Police widened their criminal investigation to cover the documentary's allegations, and aren't bound by Reform's findings. Farage is still under parliamentary investigation over a £5m donation. Channel 4 has verified Verbatim's work.
