@GovernorKayIvey As long as you get teachers who can teach and don't try to "gentle parent" 24/7, you'll see results. My son's 4K experience was disappointing.
@aldotcom@aledlab Another big reason (and validation) for why we moved last year..
Previous school: 2nd=71.7 & 3rd=48.1 / Current School: 2nd=93.1 & 3rd=91.6
My son maxed out 2nd Gr reading score in January in all but one category. The Spring score was maxed out completely across the board.
@heatheralyssa4 @heymrsbond Yes to all of this!
The IEP protects my son (Autism +2, SPD, OCD, PDA) & forces the more insensitive admin to step back and reevaluate themselves. They don't like it. I make them care about my son and don't let them put him in a box.
@GiUknit Went thru 2 years of caring for my FIL. My husband did the bulk of the work instead of coming home after work and I kept the house (3 kids) and worked FT too. It was hard. //hugs. Take it one day at a time!
@RedTeam4Life@SanchezMamacita@jawshuatree@TCRG2012@LeeJohnson65@BASchools My son is in a 340+ HS band. The school doesn't supply anything extra for them. $500/yr fee, 3 fundraisers, & concession stand income makes up the 300K the band uses for special instructors, props, travel, equipment, new uniforms, etc. Not the school. Leave the Band alone.
@_TallieRose I had a similar problem getting an MRI for my torn rotator cuff 2 yrs ago. My ortho nurse had to call and convince them it was necessary bc I was in pain and they needed to see how bad the tear was. BCBS nurse had left it in an "undecided" pile and was planning to deny it!
@Trish_Crain It's already factored into the Career Prep class my son is in now (9th grade). He has had a few lessons in comparing financial rates for loans and credit cards as well as comparing trade to college educated careers. The curriculum could easily add/change a few lessons into it.
@Conservativeind@Chase_Teel Why not thru public schools? I have to check my son out of school & lose several working hours to take him to his regular appointments. Having that service in school would keep him from losing more learning time and allows me to work full time which = more taxes into the city.
@fuckyouiquit As a college student/worker at a restaurant, we always snuck the apple pies home instead of throwing them away... always. Wasting food should be frowned upon more.
@Zvbear Look up the book "nuerotribes" and you'll learn the history of the research of Autism in the early 1900s. Since then it's evolved and grown in the mainstream understanding and acceptance. My dad and I are both Autistic. He's 68, I'm 40. My 8 yr old now has access to proper aides.
@ravenscimaven Ps. He needs a bath too this weekend.. he likes to drink the water from the bird bath and then roll around in the yard. Spunky little critter!
@SupernovaMomma Considering my adhd self just toasted mine to a crisp last week while sterilizing one (I forgot it was on the stove!)... I'm ordering this today! Thanks!
@NathanMackBrown I still tested positive after 12 days even though all symptoms were gone by day 5.. I wore a mask but I had to go back to work. I only get 2 PTO/year.
