Poorly understood fact:

The "winner take all" approach to Electoral College votes is purely a function of state law.

Nothing Constitutional or under federal law is stopping a state from apportioning its Electoral College votes consistent with the popular vote percentages inside the state.

Remind people from California, New York, Illinois, etc. of this fact the next time they claim the Electoral College is "undemocratic."

Ask them instead why they hate democracy by silencing ~40% of their state.

A lot of outlets are talking about the $5.1M in social service grants that the city is cutting.

Let's put that in perspective.

$5.1M of $1.54B general fund = 0.33%

If you're a household making $100K a year, paying an extra $346 in property taxes, that's 0.35% of your income.

And it's a larger percentage for the many thousands of households who bring home far less than $100K.
