Wealthy countries, including Ireland, are failing to follow through on crucial UN climate agreements. Writing in @thejournal_ie today on why communities on the frontlines of the climate crisis are the ones paying the price https://t.co/8rPGxO3djb
‘What we really need to see from developed countries, including Ireland, in Week 2 is a renewed commitment to provide much needed climate finance’. On the line from Belém, @r_fitzpatrick92 updated @mcculld on Week 1 of #COP30 and what needs to happen by the summit’s end.
Dáil opposition united. ICJ & FA Ctte too. Time to act.
With a ‘ceasefire’ in place, Gaza will slip out of news coverage & political focus. The worst thing we could do now would be to back away from our commitments.
Over to you @SimonHarrisTD@MichealMartinTD#PassTheOTB 🇵🇸
🚨Ireland’s Business Committee has concluded that the European Commission’s tearing apart of crucial corporate accountability laws will fail to protect workers & communities. It raises major concerns about unchecked corporate abuse. Their report is below 👇https://t.co/FJrnE220hL
Very important.. the EU this week recognised that individual countries like Ireland may ban trade with Israel's illegal settlements under EU law. In June 9 EU MS (incl 🇮🇪) called for a ban. Now 🇫🇷 calls to end "all forms of financial support, direct & indirect" to settlements 👇
This is the US group who provide the “expert legal analysis” on the OTB covered in today’s Irish Times. Palestine is not occupied, the settlements are Israel, these are just “Israeli goods”. The lawyer has represented Trump Jr & organised crime cases. “Expert legal analysis”.

The 🇪🇺 Commission’s Omnibus Proposal risks watering down critical human rights & environmental protections for victims of corporate abuse.
On #SocialJusticeDay, we ask that @EUCssrMcGrath takes a stand against dangerous deregulation & puts people & planet first.
#NoToOmnibus
It's just not accurate to say the Dáil was constitutionally obliged to elect a Taoiseach today. Micheál Martin is knowingly disseminating an untruth in that regard. As he knows well, the Dáil failed to elect a Taoiseach on three occasions after the 2016 GE. That might not be
.@EUCssrMcGrath was clear in his confirmation hearing about his commitment to swift implementation of the #CSDDD
Now @vonderleyen risks undoing that promise.
With 160+ CSOs, unions, and activists, we say #NoToOmnibus—corporate accountability is non-negotiable for a fair future!

Rory Stewart says climate finance for developing countries is "completely the wrong way" to "stop global warming".
Instead G20 should have met for a couple more days to "try to crack this".
A few problems with this...
Today is International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian people. The best way 🇮🇪 can show solidarity is through action. We urge the next Govt to urgently pass the Occupied Territories Bill - an essential step in beginning to address the decades-long, ongoing injustice in 🇵🇸
The statement issued by the French Foreign Ministry today saying that certain leaders could have immunity from the ICC arrest warrants is a big shame and constitutes a stark violation of France’s legal obligations under the Rome Statute.

I’ve been told that candidates from various political parties, when asked about the Occupied Territories Bill on the doors, are saying that I’m “happy” or “satisfied” that the Bill didn’t pass in full pre election. So I’m sharing this for the avoidance of any doubt.
We should have passed this Bill *six* years ago! We certainly should’ve passed it in the lifetime of the last Dáil. And we should still do so urgently as soon as a new Govt is elected. No more ifs or buts, no more excuses.
That next Govt is going to come under huge pressure to back down, to go back to the failed EU line of empty condemnation with zero action. They’ll be pushed to make more than technical amendments to strengthen the Bill - they’ll be asked to water it down. They’ll be told that a ban on all trade, as the ICJ made clear is an obligation, is too complicated. Why not narrow the Bill to apply only to the import of physical goods, and exempt trade in services (far more important) completely? If you watch me and my team’s discussion in the Dáil Foreign Affairs Committee two days before this election was called, you can see that pressure has started already. We need your help to counter it.
The way we do that is by showing strong and persistent public support for real action on Palestine. I’m in Councils right across the country and see the anger people feel at the shameful, ongoing genocide in Gaza and EU inaction. It’s frustrating to hear that some candidates are trying to suggest on the door not to worry, that it’s all sorted - because it isn’t.
I’ve been working tirelessly on this issue since 2018 and so have many organisations and campaigners. Nothing is done until it’s done. So if you’re watching what’s happening in Gaza and the West Bank on the news every night, and you’re horrified about it, then please keep telling your candidates on the door - pass the Occupied Territories Bill as soon as a new Govt is formed. Resist any attempts to weaken it. And accept no more excuses and no more delays.
