@seanmcarroll @patrickc @michael_nielsen Some the greatest discoveries and inventions in history came from “full-stack” geniuses – part scientists, part philosopher, part mathematician, part tinkerer. We need more Newton's and Ben franklin’s but it's hard to nurture these geniuses when everything is so specialized.

@seanmcarroll @patrickc @michael_nielsen Specialization is a coping mechanism to tame the complexity of every increasing knowledge (which like entropy is always increasing). But specialization is also the enemy of lateral thinking that often comes from a cross-pollination of insights across disciplines.
