I've not expressed any view so far on Paytm issue. But some are asking for it. So here we go:

RBI is one of the best central banks in the world. It is a very conservative and cautious regulator. They work with no fear or favour and do what is necessary and good for the industry.

If RBI is taking such a severe action, I would like to believe there are very serious lapses. I would trust RBI over any bank or fintech.

Just because someone has come up in life in a very hard way doesn't mean his misdeeds should go unpunished.

I feel sorry for the Paytm shareholders.

I asked him why he studied philosophy - is it that his marks in Class 12 only gave him admission in that subject or was it out of interest in philosophy. He told me it was neither. Vishnu Tiwari's family had a land dispute with a Dalit family in Lalitpur, UP. They filed a case of rape and casteist abuses under the SC/ST Act against Tiwari in 2005.

He was jailed and sentenced to 20 yrs for both cases. After 2005, no one could meet Vishnu in jail for 12 yrs. In 2017, when his younger brother came to meet him, he revealed that he had sold all the land to fight his case and presently had nothing left. His parents and two brothers had died during his jail time, and he couldn't even attend the funerals.

Finally, a govt lawyer heard him, fought his case and ultimately, the High Court found Vishnu innocent.

Vishnu Tiwari stayed in jail for 20 yrs for a crime he didn't commit, losing his youth, parents, brothers, house, land, and the will to live. To make things worse, there is apparently no counter case against those who falsely framed him, and he received no compensation for his misery.

Tiwari's case is one of the many instances of the misuse of the SC/ST Act, and it seems like nobody is keen to address this issue.
