What kind of people do this? The worst imaginable. Gaza is an open prison, its population cornered, starved, beaten and murdered - routinely. While the state of Israel pursues its slow motion land grab (50 years and counting) and the ethnic cleansing of Palestine - they speak of this openly, it’s not my opinion.

A recent UN report found sexual abuse of children is routine, a weapon in Israel’s war on a civilian population. Ten thousand people, including women and children are in prisons with no proper judicial process, in horrendous conditions, where starvation, torture and death are routine and where right wing ministers visit to make sick videos humiliating prisoners. Israel is a grotesque regime - we must impose sanctions; economic, cultural and military - until we do we are accomplices to these outrageous crimes against humanity.

We are part of this, while we trade with Israel, arm them with weapons and give them cultural cover - through football and Eurovision. Until we do something like we did against South Africa in its apartheid years (Israel is also an Apartheid state) and like we do right now with Russia - for it’s far, far lesser crimes. Twenty one rounds of sanctions and counting - economic, cultural and military. What bigger double standard can you imagine, that the one between how we treat Russia for its invasion and occupation and how we treat Israel - for that and so much more. Are we racist? Or are we just afraid of the USA that has been shielding Israel forever, from proper international sanctions and enforcement of international law. Trump has exposed the limits of US power - in his various trade and actual wars.

When will Europe find its courage and speak out - and act on its morals?

Here is what I believe.

We have been separated by people who profit from our separation.

Here is what that separation does.
People stop talking. They stop talking, so they stop knowing each other. They stop knowing each other, so they fear each other. They fear each other, so they hate each other. You break that chain at the first link, not the last.

I also believe there is one true existential threat to this democracy and his name is Donald Trump.

So I will sit down with anyone who has a platform and sees in Trump what I see.

That is why I sat down with Nick Fuentes. His views on race and women are antithetical to mine. What he has said about the Holocaust and Nazism is indefensible. He is also demonstrably persuasive and he has a bullhorn that no amount of cancellation has taken from him. A million-plus people listen to him. I wanted to hear it myself instead of reading what I am supposed to think about it.

Nick and I agree on almost nothing. We agree on Trump.

Nothing else we argue about matters if Trump is not stopped. And the people who see what he is do not all think like me. If your standard is that everyone who opposes him has to agree with you first, you have already handed him the country.

I will take one piece of common ground over ten more years of shouting across the same street.
