The WHO has recognized cancer, heart disease, stroke, chronic lung disease and diabetes as leading causes of premature mortality. Yet kidney disease, despite its significant impact, is absent from this list. This is not just a gap in policy, it’s a major oversight. Sign here!👇
It's a silent killer.
Each year, between 5 and 11 million people die from kidney disease.
It's one of the world's leading causes of death — but many people don't know about it.
With your help, we can change that.

We are heartbroken to announce that Prof (Stephen) Ben Walsh, died peacefully on 30th Sept while surrounded by family & friends.
Both his family & @RenalUCL are raising funds to find a way to honour his memory and achievements. More info below:

Ben's passion for science & medicine was an integral part of who he was. And after self-diagnosing with lung cancer 18 months ago, he decided keep his condition private to protect his clinical and academic work. Remarkably Ben continued to work throughout his illness, right to the very end, ensuring that his students, colleagues and patients were taken care of, and that all he had built would continue on.
There are no words to really express the profound sadness we feel, the loss of a dear friend, colleague and mentor. He will leave a very large hole in our lives and he will not be forgotten.
Details of funeral/memorial services will be made available in due course.
We're also requesting anyone with pictures or videos of Ben to upload these to the Google Photos or Dropbox links below. We've also attached a link to a Google Doc for messages of condolence you may wish to leave for the family.

This. Absolutely.
And all the attempts at rejecting referrals as med reg is practice for what to say when nursery calls me to tell me my child is ‘sick’.
All those years I spent as an A&E junior trying to convince a specialty reg to take my sick patient were just practice for trying to convince nursery to take my sick child
Very excited by the updated line-up for the Advanced Kidney Care Symposium.
AKC is a really critical part of most kidney patients’ journeys. This multidisciplinary day will update knowledge and skills, and consider best practice and potential challenges.
King of Spain at the final day of Wimbledon. This looks great.
Very rare to see this level of tailoring nowadays, even on the wealthy. So let's talk about some of the reasons why it's great. 🧵
Just hired a 21yo for their first job. What basic professional advice do they need? Here's what I tell all my new staff, but perhaps you can add. I'll start small.
1/ Use an online calendar. Have a foolproof system of reminders, so you never forget a deadline or obligation.
@Nurseamybee @veggieequallife @BMA_JuniorDocs @Doctors_Vote Completely wrong, 5-6 years on average for medical school and 4 years if on accelerated prog because of a previous degree. Please don’t underestimate the time taken to study medicine. Plus 2 years of foundation and a further 3-10 years of specialty training depending on specialty
Interviewer: "Retention is the key word here, isn't it? Surely if you pay staff... what they deserve, then that will help with retention. That's not part of the plan, is it?"
The National Medical Director of NHS England: "No, its not part of the plan"
This is a great look at the direction of the NHS is going.
Disclaimer : I have absolutely nothing against ANPs and the wider health professional team except utmost respect and support
I'm a consultant interventionalist, but was a trainee just 18mo ago. I am an educational supervisor (to doctors) and have mentored ANPs & pharmacists to expand their skills. I am clinical lead for my department, so all too aware of the pressures on trusts. Here are my thoughts. https://t.co/NTtasXQiam
