The ASI closed at 21,270.02, breaking below the recent swing low of 21,349.66 and extending the ongoing corrective structure.
📈 Technical Snapshot
🔹 Hourly Time Frame
• MACD below signal and zero lines
• RSI at 23.09 (approaching oversold territory)
• Index below 9, 20, 50 & 200 SMAs
🔹 Daily Time Frame

📌 Market Structure
Since the high of 23,114.31 on 11th May, the market has continued to produce:
🔻 Lower Low – 21,780.72
🔺 Lower High – 22,390.17
🔻 Lower Low – 21,349.66
🔺 Lower High – 21,635.16
🔻 Lower Low – 21,270.02
This confirms that the intermediate trend remains bearish.
However, the broader consolidation between 24,070.93 and 20,213.78 remains intact until the March low is broken on a closing basis.
💡 The Bigger Story: Participation Remains Missing
While price continues to weaken, market participation remains far below normal levels.
📉 Turnover: LKR 1.66Bn vs YTD Average LKR 4.67Bn
📉 Volume: 86.39Mn vs YTD Average 192.88Mn
📉 Trades: 22,535 vs YTD Average 35,870
This suggests that neither aggressive buyers nor panic sellers are dominating the market.
Historically, major market moves are usually accompanied by:
✔ Rising turnover
✔ Rising volumes
✔ Increasing trade counts
At present, the market is drifting lower without broad participation.
The next sustainable move higher may require a catalyst strong enough to attract fresh capital and push activity back toward historical averages.
📌 Key Levels to Watch
🔺 Resistance:
21,434 → 21,713 → 21,914
🔻 Support:
21,199 → 20,918 → 20,625
📊 Market Insight
The intermediate trend remains bearish.
The broader consolidation remains intact.
The key battleground now appears to be the area between the Weekly Higher Low of 20,864.39 and the March low of 20,213.78.
How buyers respond within that zone could determine the market’s next major move.

All T Bills hit double digits for the first time in 20 months!
This week's auction crossed two significant thresholds:
• Entire T Bill curve is now in double-digit territory for the first time since Oct 2024.
• 182-day (10.27%) now yields above the 364-day (10.16%).
Summary
• 91-day: +25 bps → 10.09% | 87% accepted
(vs. +48 bps, 85% last week)
• 182-day: +26 bps → 10.27% | 16% accepted
(vs. +33 bps, 84% last week)
• 364-day: +14 bps → 10.16% | 31% accepted
(vs. +19 bps, 48% last week)
Interestingly, on the 182-day, PDMO rejected 84% of bids, yet the WAY still rose 26 bps.
The market is pushing hard, and the PDMO is pushing back.
Overall, PDMO raised just LKR 72 Bn against LKR 140 Bn offered, while maturities for this week amounts to LKR 170 Bn, leaving a ~LKR 98 Bn deficit to be covered from the Govt.'s cash buffer.
How long can this strategy hold?
The Government plans to launch a pilot demerit points system for motorists in September as part of efforts to improve road safety and reduce traffic-related deaths, Transport, Highways and Urban Development Minister Bimal Rathnayake told Parliament.
The Minister said stronger enforcement measures are needed to improve driving standards, noting that traditional regulations alone have not been sufficient to curb reckless behaviour on the roads.
He said Sri Lanka recorded 2,750 road accident deaths last year, with motorcyclists and pedestrians accounting for the majority of fatalities.
According to the proposed system, drivers will be allocated 24 points on their licences, with points deducted for traffic violations. Repeated offences could lead to penalties, including the suspension of driving privileges.
Rathnayake said previous attempts to introduce the system had faced delays due to irregularities and administrative challenges within the Department of Motor Traffic (DMT).
He also highlighted ongoing reforms at the DMT, including digitalisation initiatives and measures aimed at reducing corruption, improving efficiency, and modernising services through the e-Motoring project. (Newswire)
Sri Lankan mangoes stole the spotlight at Bahrain’s Mango festivals this May and June, featured prominently by leading supermarket chains Lulu Hypermarket and Al Jazira. As part of its economic diplomacy, the Sri Lankan Embassy encouraged Bahraini retailers to source fresh fruit from Sri Lanka. Lulu launched its ‘Mango Mania’ on May 23, while Al Jazira’s June 4 ‘Great Mango Football Fiesta’ showcased Sri Lankan mangoes alongside varieties from India, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines.

The amount of people on social media making fun of June being Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month is disturbing. I see videos from women mocking men even making jokes about the male suicide rate with one woman saying on a video, “I wish it was higher”. DISGUSTING.
Sri Lankan middle-distance runner Tharushi Abhisheka has won the gold medal in the women’s 1500m event at the 22nd Asian U20 Athletics Championships held in Hong Kong, China. The result marks a notable achievement for Sri Lanka at junior level in Asian athletics.

CBSL USD sales spike to a 33-month high!
In May 2026, @CBSL sold a massive USD 223 Mn while purchasing just USD 12 Mn.
This is the highest since Aug 2023, when CBSL sold USD 467 Mn*, but also bought USD 296 Mn*.
In context, sales in May 2026 were almost equal to:
• total sales during Nov 2025 to Apr 2026
• total purchases during Mar to May 2026
These figures clearly show the pressure on the LKR during May, when the exchange rate shot up towards 350 before falling back to the 330 level.
However, CBSL remains a net purchaser, with cumulative year-to-date net purchases amounting to USD 486 Mn.
In addition, CBSL has given an undertaking to the @IMFNews to purchase USD 2,200 Mn during 2026 - which seems challenging in the current context.
P.S.
Since Jan 2026, CBSL has shifted to reporting on a value-date basis. Accordingly, historical data in the table (compiled by me when CBSL reported on a transaction-date basis) may not fully tally with the restated figures.

Look for something to use against an honorable person even when there isn’t anything!
Bring in race, religion, language or caste because that is how you think and that is how you make your decisions. And you judge others by your own low standards.
