Truth be told, that was one of the dullest World Cup finals I can remember. Thank goodness Spain won.

Argentina once again showed themselves to be cheats: violent, petulant, poor sports and even worse losers. The scenes at the final whistle were an utter disgrace. Somehow they managed to avoid multiple yellow cards, and if there were any justice in world football, they’d be banned from international competition for the next 18 months.

It’s a shame Messi is Argentinian, because he’s a maestro. But he’s surrounded by a team that’s more reminiscent of inmates in a high-security prison for violent offenders than elite professional footballers.

And it’s gutting that England didn’t make the final, because I genuinely think they could have got a result against either of these two teams.
