@SecRollins@USDA_APHIS@USDA@TAHC We must shut down illegal cattle trafficking through Central America and Mexico, which is also benefiting cartels and organized criminals.
@linaposting@USDA The screwworm has been transported overland in infected unregulated and contraband cattle. That is how it spread so quickly from Central America to Mexico.
@FriedrichFiles@RyanWeather Higher baseline sea and air temps are obviously not a simple multiplier or additive layer on top of RONI. However, climate change/El Niño synergies clearly make overall impacts worse in many cases and places (e.g. Central America). And worse in many cases is worse overall.
@TexasTribune The difference between one and 25 miles is inconsequential. The screwworm fly flies. Infected wildlife and livestock move dozens of miles carrying the parasite. If the nearest detection was 25 miles from the border, it is very likely that screwworm has already crossed.

🇲🇽 | The screwworm parasite was first detected in animals in December 2024 on a remote farm near Mexico’s border with Guatemala. Now authorities say they’ve detected the first human case. Learn more in our investigation about cattle trafficking: https://t.co/auuXDO0PPq
