Congrats @YukunCheng1, my first undergrad mentor! You gave me an unforgettable introduction to science and I’m so excited to see where your career takes you!
Congrats to Dr. Yukun Cheng, who defended his outstanding thesis on C-N and N-N coupling w/ Ti today! Yukun is a force in every sense and I’m lucky to have worked with him. He’s off to postdoc with @SongLinLab next! (let’s hope there aren’t more glovebox probs in your future).
Tears of queer joy hearing about @CarolynBertozzi winning the chemistry #NobelPrize & Svante Pääbo in physiology, 1st openly LGBTQ+ STEM Nobel winners! Shouldn’t matter, but in a year with so much increased hate & violence it is so important to have these visible icons. #Pride
Progressing towards sustainable olefin epoxidation! Making electrophilic oxygen species while avoiding clusters or hydroxides that are active toward competing OER was the key to success.
With climate change becoming more pressing every day, I reflect on the enormous impact of artificial ammonia synthesis on the Earth. Chorkendorff and co-workers have made an enormous stride towards feeding the world sustainably. It's great to see these bright spots of progress!
Very honored to have written a preview for the Chorkendorff lab's excellent work on sustainable ammonia synthesis in the most recent issue of @Joule_CP, now online! Thanks to @KManthiram and @Joule_CP for the opportunity.

Check out our newest paper in @ACSEnergyLett! @ZJSchiffer et al. report on the use of ammonium formate as a safe, solid energy carrier, achieving excellent faradaic efficiencies at both the anode and cathode.

The thing about grad school is you can be flat on your back, so dizzy from a reaction to your meds that you can’t sit up. but still feel guilty that you stayed home from work
Erin has done amazing this summer and has been incredibly rewarding to mentor! Her ingenuity and practical approach to problems have helped us explore Li-mediated nitrogen reduction in entirely new ways.
We're very proud of our CamSURF summer undergrad Erin McMurchie for doing so well at Caltech Summer Seminar Day! She knocked it out of the park and enthralled her audience. Her hard work this summer has been inspiring and we're all excited to see what her future has in store!
