Tinubu Urges Kwali Residents to Protect New Road, Says Era of Abandoned Projects Is Over
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged residents of Gomani, Dafa and Yangoji communities in Kwali Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to take ownership of the newly commissioned Gomani–Dafa–Yangoji Road, describing the infrastructure as a shared asset that must be protected for future generations.
Represented by Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, the President said the responsibility for preserving the road now rested with the communities after government had fulfilled its obligation by delivering the project.
"To the royal fathers, community leaders, our farmers, our traders and the youths of Gomani, Dafa and Yangoji, this road is now yours. Guard it jealously," Tinubu said on Tuesday during the commissioning of the road in .
He cautioned residents against encroaching on the road corridor, urged them to keep drainage channels free of refuse and to promptly report any act of vandalism.
"Do not allow encroachment on the rights of way. Keep the drains clear of filth and report any attempt to vandalise any section of this road. Use it to grow your farms, use it to grow your businesses and your children's future will be assured. Government has done its part. The next part now belongs to you, the people."
Tinubu also reaffirmed his administration's commitment to completing and maintaining public infrastructure, declaring that the practice of abandoning government projects had ended.
"The era of starting projects only to abandon them is over. We will fund, we will finish and we will maintain the infrastructure we are building. Every single naira of public funds must show up as value for the citizens."
The President said the newly completed road would improve access to markets, schools, healthcare facilities and other economic opportunities for residents of the rural communities, while reducing post-harvest losses and boosting agricultural productivity.
Earlier, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barr. Nyesom Wike, said the project was another fulfilment of President Tinubu's directive that development should extend beyond Abuja city to satellite communities.
According to Wike, the road was awarded in November 2025 and completed in less than a year, demonstrating what could be achieved through political commitment and responsible contracting.
"This road was awarded in November last year. Today is June 30, 2026. It was completed before 12 months. That tells you this is not rocket science. It is commitment by the administration and commitment by the contractor," he said.
The minister commended the contractor for delivering the project within the agreed timeline and disclosed that the same firm would also complete the Gbazango (Arab Road) project in Kubwa scheduled for commissioning next month.
Wike recalled that President Tinubu had directed FCT ministers to consult communities before selecting projects, a process he said ensured that infrastructure reflected the priorities of residents rather than decisions made from government offices.
He noted that traditional rulers in Kwali had consistently requested the construction of the A2–Pai, Pai–Gomani and Gomani–Dafa–Yangoji road corridor, adding that all the promises made to the communities had now been fulfilled.
The minister also praised traditional rulers in the area for supporting contractors throughout the construction period, saying their commitment to community development contributed significantly to the timely completion of the project.
He subsequently invited the President's representative to formally inaugurate the road, marking another milestone in the ongoing 31-day commissioning of projects executed by the FCT Administration under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
President Tinubu on FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike:
"When I gave him the assignment to make Abuja a true capital city, I knew his track record. Barrister Wike, you have not disappointed. From transforming abandoned roads into new boulevards, to delivering water projects and judicial quarters, you work day and night. You do not give excuses; you give results."

Traditional Ruler Hails Wike Over Rehabilitation of 75 Schools Across FCT
Luka Nizassan, Etsu Kwali, Kwali Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has rated FCT Minister Nyesom Wike high on school rehabilitation and upgrades across the territory.
Nizassan stated this in an Interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Sunday.
NAN reports that Wike had on March 21, 2024, inaugurated the rehabilitation, upgrade and reconstruction of public secondary schools across the FCT.
The Minister had explained that the move was part of President Bola Tinubu's administration’s efforts to improve access to quality education in public schools.
The Kwali traditional ruler said that so far, renovations were ongoing in more than 75 schools across the six area councils of the FCT with some already completed.
He said that as of mid-2024, the Wike-led FCT Administration had renovated Government Technical Secondary School, Kwali, and Junior Government Secondary School, Pai.
He added that the renovation of the Government Secondary School, Kwali, was equally ongoing.
According to him, the rehabilitation programme is already improving access to quality and inclusive education in public schools across the FCT.
He particularly commended the FCT Minister for improving schools’ infrastructure, including the provision of water and sanitation facilities.
“The resolve of the honourable Minister to improve access to quality education and ensure equity for all learners in FCT, including rural residents, is remarkable.
“Learning spaces are now safer and more conducive. These potent learning opportunities are already yielding great results.
“Also, ensuring that all students in urban and rural areas have access to quality education is particularly empowering the natives and residents of FCT to live quality lives in the future.
Nizassan equally said that Wike’s schools’ intervention was already addressing inequality in the education sector by providing equal access to education and vocational training.
This, he said, was empowering the natives of FCT to lead sustainable lives and make decisions that improved their quality of life.
Describing Wike as “God’s sent,” the traditional ruler said that the Minister was realising the full vision of Tinubu’s administration for the people of FCT.
“The Minister’s achievements in just a year and few months had surpassed that of previous administrations put together.
“Wike’s remarkable achievements should be lauded and emulated by all duty bearers,” he said.
