Legislation increases VA benefits for catastrophically disabled veterans (SMC) & surviving spouses (DIC).
The bill passed the House 235-179. It awaits Senate vote. A key provision is monthly aid for eligible veterans.
It helps severely disabled vets & families, including those in his own district, FL-06.
Amid heat he caught over questionable loyalty to the U.S. over Israel, he’s decided to vote against the very legislation intended to protect American vets while being in support of sending more U.S. troops into war with Iran.

In 2017, a blinded Gulf War veteran named Donald Overton sent a formal whistleblower letter to the Mayor of Palm Bay, Florida, documenting evidence that Randy Fine associate, Deputy City Manager David Isnardi was embezzling donations and taxpayer money from "Homes for Warriors," a program meant to house veterans. The FBI and FDLE opened investigations.
Isnardi was arrested on racketeering and extortion charges in 2019. City Councilman Tres Holton and local businessman Jose Aguiar got dragged into the scandal. The nonprofit was disbanded.
Donald Overton did this while permanently blind from a blast injury he sustained with the 82nd Airborne in Iraq in 1991.
That same year, Palm Bay veteran Daren Gerrish (U.S. Army, two tours in Afghanistan, honorably discharged as a sergeant in 2010) tagged state legislator Randy Fine on a Facebook post asking about a bill Fine had introduced. The bill would impose a "zero-tolerance policy" barring Florida governments from doing any business with companies supporting the Boycott, Divestiture, and Sanctions movement against Israel. Gerrish wanted to know whether Fine's personal heritage created any bias in the legislation.
He told Florida Today exactly what he was doing: "I wanted to know if there was any inherent bias as it related to his heritage, and what information he could tell me about the bill and the issues so I could learn more about it and form an opinion. I never took a stance, nor did I agree or disagree with anything."
Fine's public response to this combat veteran asking a polite policy question was to label him an anti-Semite, block him from his official page, and post statements including "Ok, Nazi. Have a nice day" and "I stand against Nazis like you." When Florida Today asked about it, Fine stood by every word and added: "I don't mind calling an anti-Semite an anti-Semite."
Donald Overton joined the same Facebook thread raising questions about Fine's broader legislative approach and how it treated constituents. Fine's response was identical: smear, label, dismiss.
Then at 12:39 AM, Tres Holton, Fine's close personal friend and one of the people implicated in the veterans' charity corruption scandal that Overton had helped expose, sent Daren Gerrish a text message. Gerrish provided the screenshot directly to Florida Today:
"One chance, that is all. Stop the lies or your friend Don goes down... this is about to get real bad for liars and government cheats, (act) accordingly."
The veteran who blew the whistle on politicians stealing from other veterans was being threatened by a friend of the politician whose legislation he was now questioning, a friend connected to the same corruption network the veteran had already helped put in prison.
Fine also told Florida Today something that reveals exactly how the weapon works. He said: "To oppose the state of Israel is to oppose Judeo-Christian values." That sentence turns any policy question about Israel-related legislation into an attack on civilization itself, which means the "anti-Semite" accusation becomes structurally unfalsifiable. You cannot ask the question without being guilty of the accusation, because the question itself has been defined as the crime.
Donald Overton earned a Bachelor's in Social Work from East Carolina University, graduated Magna Cum Laude while blind, served as National Executive Director of the Blinded Veterans Association, and spent decades fighting for blinded veterans nationwide.
Randy Fine called him a Nazi for asking about a bill. Fine has never apologized, stood by every comment when asked by a reporter.

Public service was never supposed to be a path to getting rich through self-interest deals, stock trades, insider connections, lobbying influence, or political power. These people are supposed to represent the people, not profit off the system while everyday Americans struggle to pay rent, buy groceries, and keep their businesses alive.
At some point, Americans need to start asking harder questions: How are career politicians becoming multi-millionaires while the country gets poorer?
The people serve the government now instead of the government serving the people.
