@fermatslibrary This proof works only in linear media, where D and H are linear in E and B, respectively. Keeping all the four fields makes the passage to the line above the wave equation more involved.

@JAM_KseniYa@fermatslibrary Two reasons. One is there may be a practical application of it to cryptography. However, the more important reason for pure mathematicians, for whom mathematics is an art form, is that it's a challenge and it's there.
@fermatslibrary This seems to be incomplete in showing that 'if either the sum or the product of e and pi is irrational then the other is rational'. In the shown polynomial BOTH coefficients can be irrational, not violating the fact that e and pi are transcendental. (???)
