Sit in the spin:
We’ve all got a zen activity. Mine is surfing. Goa, kodi bengre, anywhere I can find a wave. People think the most part of surfing is spent riding waves. It’s actually spent paddling against the tide, exhausted arms, water in your face, going under multiple waves headed directly against you. You do this 75% of the time, to get out to deep smooth water, situate yourself, to catch ONE wave. And even that one may or may not give you a ride. When you fall off a board, if you’re surfing decent size breaks, the ocean will send you right down to the floor. You spin uncontrollably. In that moment if you try and fight the spin you risk drowning from exhaustion. You are taught to sit in the spin, understand that there are ten waves right above you that have all moved on from you, but to remember you are spinning in place. You’re not going actually anywhere. And to keep your eye on the daylight above you. When the time comes, you rise, get back on the board, catch your breath, and paddle out to deep water again. Even if you ride a wave all the way to the end, you’ve got to choose to fall back into the water. So one way or the other, you’re falling. It’s unavoidable. A good ride is over in seconds. What makes you you is how long you sit in the spin, and how quickly you head back to the deep. Anyway….I woke up missing the ocean, not sure why this came out. Happy Sunday folks.
