Countries need economic incentives to keep forest standing, particularly in High Forest Low Deforestation (HFLD) regions.
REDD+ could provide some financing through result-based payment/carbon market, but mostly provide incentives for High Deforestation regions.
Can we fix it?
HFLD or “High Forest cover, Low Deforestation” describes places, usually countries, w/ relatively large areas of intact forests & low deforestation rates.
To keep HFLD status, nations need financing to ensure forests are worth more standing than cut down.

Countries needs to be prepared for El Niño this year, which could push global temperatures to record high.
Indonesia particularly may experience severe droughts that can exacerbate forest fires.
It would also increase the risks of disease outbreaks like dengue and chikungunya.
