If human metapneumovirus (HMPV) is the main reason for market crash today, then, it is not a valid reason.

1. HMPV virus is NOT a new virus, it has been in circulation for many years,

2. HMPV infections occur in most countries globally,

3. HMPV infection is NOT similar to COVID, and can not become a pandemic,

4. HMPV infection usually occurs in children below 5, older people and those with poor immunity,

5. HMPV infection is usually mild and self-limiting (recovers on own in 4-7 days),

6. There has been NO unusual increase in case of respiratory infections in any part of India, including Bengaluru (from where reports of two infants with HMPV infection emerged),

7. The fact that these infants or their family members had no history of international travel confirms that this infection already exists in India. In fact, HMPV infection is routinely detected in several children suffering from flu every year.
