Many of us have been seeing this coming. I think last year the central government has decided to increase the MBBS seats by another 50% or 100%.

As a person with not so great health, I respect Doctors even more than others. But I've been telling in my circle, medical or dental degree, from lesser known colleges have zero value.

Few points I've been repeatedly noting for last few years:

Big corporate hospitals have a huge list of institutions where they would not pick up a medical professional from. The institutions from them where they want Doctors are usually very well known government colleges and some good private colleges.

A Doctor told me they are now compulsorily displaying their UG, PG degrees (not just medical registration number) in the reception because patients have started giving importance to where their Doctors have studied.

I don't want to mention the state. There is an unwritten rule in all the big and good hospitals not to recruit a Doctor who has studied in any private college in that particular state. It's very easy there to start a private medical college and easy to get seats too.

A Doctor who is an atheist, doesn't believe in religion or caste, told me zero mark cutoffs for post graduate medical degrees have created panic among patients. He believes that in future the patients may want to know cutoff marks, grades and so on.

He says earlier a medical degree gave an assurance of comfortable life, which no longer is true. He says we don't need this many Doctors.
