American Matthew Aaron VanDyke, a veteran of covert wars in the Middle East and Ukraine, was arrested in India in March alongside six military-trained drone specialists from Ukraine. Indian authorities allege the group, part of a larger international network, smuggled drones into India and then into Myanmar. After returning from Myanmar, the seven were arrested under India's stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) for alleged terrorist conspiracy.

VanDyke's case has since been raised with New Delhi by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

In a preliminary chargesheet filed this week, however, India's National Investigation Agency indicted the seven under the Immigration and Foreigners Act, not the UAPA, telling the court that its wider investigation into the alleged cross-border drone supplies and terrorist conspiracy remains ongoing.

Earlier, after VanDyke began a liquid-only hunger strike, saying he could not stomach the prison's Indian-style food, a New Delhi court — without objection from the prosecution — approved his request for a special Western-style diet in jail.

It is difficult to imagine an Indian jailed in the U.S. on terrorist-conspiracy charges receiving a court-approved special Indian diet as readily. The New Delhi court even ordered the jail authorities to assign a prison cook to take care of VanDyke's dietary needs.

Srishti is a DANGEROUS ARTIST. For More than 5 months she is in UP Jail. Charges of rioting, death threat, beating goborment officers, destroy property - what not!

BTW she is doing well in jail. Along with painting & drawing she is also reading Premchand's novel. 🎨

Other than making portraits of her fellow inmates in the women’s prison, Shristi is also conducting art workshops for the women and their children.

Shuddhabrata Sengupta went to meet her in jail. A prison staff told him that Srishti is a very good artist and that the staff herself is encouraging her own daughter to attend Srishti's workshop in jail. 🎨

Why not? Nevertheless, Srishti is a terrorist, but she also holds a master’s degree from Tagore's Shantiniketan. 🎨

Anyways Srishti should remain in jail for the rest of her life.

She is a dangerous Artist.

Just think about it - she conducts regular workshops with children in slum areas, volunteers at informal schools and Library for them. 🎨

As well as also conduct health awareness campaign for women in slums. 🎨

Tell me, if these aren't terrorist activities in India, then what is?

It doesn't matter that she was detained on 11 April after sunset by male police officers only - simply picked up from Botanical Garden Metro Station, Noida without any warrant.

And She is charged in connection with the 13 April Noida labour protest violence. Perhaps she conducted the violence from police custody - very possible. 🤷🏾

Btw 19 August was her Birthday last month. Did she get a cake in jail? 🎂🍰🩵

Let's pray Srishti never comes out of JAIL.

Confused by the debate over India’s 7.8% GDP growth? Here’s an explanation in simple English

A lot of complicated jargon has been thrown around by economists and analysts trying to explain how India’s GDP grew by 7.8% between April and June 2026.

The trouble is that they often end up speaking to each other, making an already complicated subject even harder to understand.

In this piece, I try to explain things in simple English.

So, what exactly is behind that 7.8% growth number?

There is a new GDP methodology, big revisions to past data, the pandemic years missing from the new GDP series and the double-deflation approach, which comes with its own statistical quirks.

कल जब हम सत्य निकेतन में थे तो दो बच्चियाँ हिम्मत करके अपना PG दिखाने लेकर गईं। इस रिपोर्ट में जितना हो सका हमने दिखाया है कि ऐसे स्टूडेंट्स हब में बच्चे किस हाल में रहते हैं। उसी बीच मेरे और मेरी टीम के साथ PG के मालिक ने बदतमीज़ी की। मेरी आवाज़ सहज रहती तो वो रुकते भी नहीं, और बुरी तरह पेश आते। जितना हो सका हमने आपको दिखाने की कोशिश की है।
इसके साथ एक और अपील है अगर आप माँ-बाप हैं, आपका बच्चा ऐसी किसी जगह पढ़ता है, तो प्लीज़ उसपर दबाव मत बनाइयेगा कि वो कुछ बोल ना पाये कभी अगर ग़लत देखें भी तो। बच्चों ने बहुत हिम्मत करके बोला है, हमने ये कहते हुए भी सुना उन्हें कि जब बचेंगे ही नहीं तो क्या बोल पाएंगे, इसलिए बोल रहे हैं। 🙏

explaining the anomaly the Double Deflator method has created in estimating Manufacturing and Net Taxes.

He explains it in simple bakery math. Thankfully.

And a larger point remains: the absolute GDP downward revision in the new series has been left unexplained hitherto. Consumption overall has come down by ~80 lakh crores, just in 4 years. That's very very large.

And that unexplained downward revision in new series GDP has helped growth WITHIN the new series look good ( of course, nobody can say that we didn't grow. Plenty of numbers testify to this. Question only is: by how much).

Probably the only piece you need to read on the GDP growth topic.

Final point: GDP is a very broad estimate of estimate. Eg, The double deflator requires producer prices and I am not sure whether our statistics office gets that from producers.

For most people getting into this debate is a waste of time.

What matters ultimately from an investment perspective is the growth of the companies in your portfolio.

And that usually is not that vague ( unless backward downward revisions are permitted by the regulator in which case we can have permanent high future growth rates).

इंडियन एक्सप्रेस की ये रिपोर्ट बताती है कि यूपी में नोएडा के मजदूरों के साथ क्या हुआ!!

जंतर-मंतर के प्रदर्शन में शामिल युवाओं पर से केस खत्म कर दिए गए।

मगर नोएडा में योगी आदित्यनाथ की सरकार ने गरीब गुरबा मजदूरों पर जबरदस्त क्रैकडाउन किया।

एक से बढ़कर एक गंभीर धाराओं में उन्हें बंद कर दिया गया।

जब ये मामले कोर्ट में पहुंचे तो योगी सरकार की कलई खुल गई।

इंडियन एक्सप्रेस की रिपोर्ट बताती है कि इन गरीब मजदूरों की 222 बेल एप्लीकेशन की सुनवाई के दौरान पुलिस की थ्योरी भर भराकर गिर पड़ी।

कोर्ट ने पाया कि पुलिस द्वारा दर्ज मामलों में तीन बड़ी खामियां हैं।

एक- सिर्फ घटनास्थल पर मौजूदगी अपराध में शामिल होने का आधार नहीं।

मतलब ये कि आपने राजा को खुश करने की खातिर जो भी मौके पर मिला, उसे गंभीर धाराओं में अंदर ठूंस दिया जो कोर्ट में टिक न सका।

दो- पुलिस के पास मजदूरों के खिलाफ स्पेसिफिक एविडेंस नहीं थे।

न वीडियो था, न फोरेंसिक प्रूफ था। महज भीड़ को आरोपित कर उन्हें पकड़ लिया गया और जेलों में ठूंस दिया गया।

तीन- आम मजदूरों और आयोजकों में कोई अंतर नहीं किया गया। उठा उठाकर जेलों में ठूंस दिया गया।

पुलिस की ये सारी थ्योरी कोर्ट में भरभराकर गिर गई,

मगर सोचिए, इस बीच उन गरीब गुरबा मजदूरों के साथ क्या हुआ?

लीगल फीस और जमानत के इंतजाम में किसी का घर बिक गया, किसी की जमीन जाती रही, कोई भारी कर्जे में डूब गया।

उनका अपराध सिर्फ इतना था कि वे 10x10 के कमरे में महज 10-12 हजार रुपया महीना में घुटती अपनी जिंदगी से निजात पाना चाहते थे। 

2-4 हजार बढ़कर कमाना चाहते थे!!

मगर उन्हें ये मोहलत भी न मिली।

राजा को ये बर्दाश्त न हुआ कि उनके राज में कोई सत्ता का विरोध कर दे।

फिर क्या था, राजा को प्रसन्न करने के लिए पुलिस इन गरीब गुरबा मजदूरों पर टूट पड़ी!

मैं बार बार लिख रहा हूं, नियति इन सभी पापों का हिसाब करेगी।

सत्ता के तराजू में ज़मीर बेचने वालों को भला कब माफ करेगी!!
