इंडियन एक्सप्रेस की ये रिपोर्ट बताती है कि यूपी में नोएडा के मजदूरों के साथ क्या हुआ!!

जंतर-मंतर के प्रदर्शन में शामिल युवाओं पर से केस खत्म कर दिए गए।

मगर नोएडा में योगी आदित्यनाथ की सरकार ने गरीब गुरबा मजदूरों पर जबरदस्त क्रैकडाउन किया।

एक से बढ़कर एक गंभीर धाराओं में उन्हें बंद कर दिया गया।

जब ये मामले कोर्ट में पहुंचे तो योगी सरकार की कलई खुल गई।

इंडियन एक्सप्रेस की रिपोर्ट बताती है कि इन गरीब मजदूरों की 222 बेल एप्लीकेशन की सुनवाई के दौरान पुलिस की थ्योरी भर भराकर गिर पड़ी।

कोर्ट ने पाया कि पुलिस द्वारा दर्ज मामलों में तीन बड़ी खामियां हैं।

एक- सिर्फ घटनास्थल पर मौजूदगी अपराध में शामिल होने का आधार नहीं।

मतलब ये कि आपने राजा को खुश करने की खातिर जो भी मौके पर मिला, उसे गंभीर धाराओं में अंदर ठूंस दिया जो कोर्ट में टिक न सका।

दो- पुलिस के पास मजदूरों के खिलाफ स्पेसिफिक एविडेंस नहीं थे।

न वीडियो था, न फोरेंसिक प्रूफ था। महज भीड़ को आरोपित कर उन्हें पकड़ लिया गया और जेलों में ठूंस दिया गया।

तीन- आम मजदूरों और आयोजकों में कोई अंतर नहीं किया गया। उठा उठाकर जेलों में ठूंस दिया गया।

पुलिस की ये सारी थ्योरी कोर्ट में भरभराकर गिर गई,

मगर सोचिए, इस बीच उन गरीब गुरबा मजदूरों के साथ क्या हुआ?

लीगल फीस और जमानत के इंतजाम में किसी का घर बिक गया, किसी की जमीन जाती रही, कोई भारी कर्जे में डूब गया।

उनका अपराध सिर्फ इतना था कि वे 10x10 के कमरे में महज 10-12 हजार रुपया महीना में घुटती अपनी जिंदगी से निजात पाना चाहते थे। 

2-4 हजार बढ़कर कमाना चाहते थे!!

मगर उन्हें ये मोहलत भी न मिली।

राजा को ये बर्दाश्त न हुआ कि उनके राज में कोई सत्ता का विरोध कर दे।

फिर क्या था, राजा को प्रसन्न करने के लिए पुलिस इन गरीब गुरबा मजदूरों पर टूट पड़ी!

मैं बार बार लिख रहा हूं, नियति इन सभी पापों का हिसाब करेगी।

सत्ता के तराजू में ज़मीर बेचने वालों को भला कब माफ करेगी!!

हम उम्मीद तो नहीं करते कि आप हिन्दी पढ़ सकते हैं मगर इस त्रासदी में नेपाल के पत्रकारों ने शानदार काम किया है। हिमाल ख़बर, हिमालय टीवी, कांतिपुर, काठमांडु पोस्ट। आपदा की रिपोर्टिंग में नए मानक स्थापित किए हैं। मैंने कई सारी नेपाली भाषा में लिखी रिपोर्ट देखी, वीडियो रिपोर्ट देखा, अंग्रेज़ी में लिखी गई रिपोर्ट पढ़ी। किसी में बढ़ा-चढ़ा कर हांफते हुए रिपोर्टिंग नहीं दिखी। यह हम सबके लिए भी ख़ुद को रि-सेट करने का सबक रहा। आपदा के दो-तीन दिनों के भीतर हिमालय टीवी ने हेलिकॉप्टर हायर किया और अपने दो रिपोर्टर को भेजा। हिमालय टीवी ने अपना पूरा फुटेज मुझे दे दिया। बदले में कुछ नहीं माँगा। हेलिकॉप्टर उस रूट पर उड़ान भर रहा था जिसके रास्ते ग्लेशियर फटने के बाद मलबे की सुनामी आई थी। रिपोर्टर ने कुछ भी बढ़ा-चढ़ा कर या हाँफती हुई आवाज़ में नहीं बताया। न ही दावा किया कि हिमालय टीवी दुनिया का पहला टीवी है, जो हेलिकाप्टर से आपको आपदा का रूट का हाल दिखा रहा है। दोनों रिपोर्टर अपना प्रचार करने के फिराक में भी नहीं थे, न उन पर कैमरा था कि हम वो हैं जो इस हाल में आपको ये दिखा रहे हैं। यह तभी होता है जब मीडिया संस्थान, पत्रकारों को अपने काम पर भरोसा होता है। नेपाल के पत्रकारों ने इस त्रासदी के मामले में काफी प्रभावित किया है। नेपाली, अंग्रेज़ी में कई सारी अच्छी रिपोर्ट पढ़ने को मिली है। आप चाहें तो इस दौरान नेपाली प्रेस की बेहतरीन रिपोर्टर का संकलन भी तैयार कर सकते हैं। यह अच्छा दस्तावेज़ भी होगा और पत्रकारों के लिए गाइडलाइन का भी काम करेगा। आपके अख़बार का भी काम शानदार रहा है।

GDP: Dr. Arvind Subramanian Delivers a Body Blow to the Official Narrative

(a) Govt has created a fundamental trust deficit (b) GDP numbers are disconnected from reality (c) Why macro-indicators were poor in the past, yet GDP was high?

The GDP Challenger Is Here

For years, former CEA Dr. Arvind Subramanian has been a powerful voice questioning the credibility of India’s GDP numbers.

Having examined India’s growth data under the microscope for over a decade, Dr. Subramanian’s commentaries on the subject carry unusual weight.

Today he enters the ongoing GDP debate along with Abhishek Anand and Josh Felman.

EXCERPTS:

Govt is Correct on Face Value

The Ministry of Statistics (MoSPI)’s argument is correct on the technicalities. GDP numbers of Q1FY27 (new base, new methodology) cannot be compared to Q1FY26 (old base, old methodology).

But then why are people doubtful?

Govt Faces Trust Deficit

a. Govt’s handling of data has created a fundamental trust deficit. During the demonetisation shock (86% cash withdrawn) in 2016-17, the official data showed GDP has risen to a dizzy level of 8.2%. That was the beginning of distrust.

b. Examples: The census has been delayed. The 2017 consumption survey was withdrawn. Covid deaths were significantly understated. Open defecation related claims were exaggerated.

c. With this track record, the public has become doubtful about the govt’s claims. The burden of proof has passed on to the govt to demonstrate the integrity of its data.

d. Govt has still not explained why Q1FY26 GDP was revised down by 7% (an extraordinary revision compared to historical data.)

e. Govt has not released a long back series to explain this revision. Unusually, the govt has not even announced the standard committee to calculate this series.

Decoupled from Ground Reality

a. During the quarter of 7.8% GDP growth (Q1FY27), April and May 2026 were months of shortages.

Fuel was being rationed, travel was subdued, restaurants & other businesses were buying LPG in black, wage & employment had slowed, stock market was sagginng, and currency had crumbled.

b. It is hard to understand how the economy could have done so well in the face of the global energy shock.

Despite fiscal stimulus and increase in exports, the damage from 32% jump in import bill was far greater. That was the RBI’s view, which had estimated that the economy had slowed in Q1FY27.

c. In these circumstances, it would have been impressive if India had merely managed to sustain its previous growth rate. But when the numbers came in, the GDP had accelerated by almost full one percent to 7.8%.

d. More Unsolved Puzzles: If the economy was booming, why did nominal net GST revenue grow just 5% (even allowing for GST rate cuts)?

Why did import volumes fall? How could mfg deflator be negative when RBI data shows business margins actually improved?

e. Govt should release the complete “Sources and Methods” document, which details how GDP is calculated and revised.

This document exists, and it has always been released in the past. Let independent economists examine the document and reassure the public about the govt’s data.

The Final Question

The govt and its supporters argue in favour of Q1 GDP growth of 7.8% citing strong macro-indicators.

If these macro-indicators have led to 7.8% GDP growth, how was 7 to 8% GDP growth achieved in the past years with several much weaker macro-indicators (notably, sales, trade, electricity, investment)?

You cannot use one measuring tape for today, and another measuring tape for the past to suit your convenience.

बीबीसी की टीम ने लगभग दो महीने इस मामले में पड़ताल की, उन्होंने छह ऐसे दलों के बारे में पता किया, जिन्हें 'रजिस्टर्ड अनरिकग्नाइज़्ड पॉलिटिकल पार्टीज़' यानी RUPPs कहते हैं.
बीबीसी की टीम को पता चला कि इन पार्टियों को सैकड़ों करोड़ का चंदा मिला, जोकि कुछ मामलों में किसी राष्ट्रीय दल से भी ज़्यादा रहा.
लेकिन ये पार्टियां चुनावी राजनीति में अधिकतर गायब ही रहीं.
एक्सपर्ट कहते हैं कि हो सकता है ये पार्टियां असल में स्वतंत्र राजनीतिक संगठन ना हों, इसके बजाय ये पार्टियां टैक्स चोरी, मनी लॉन्ड्रिंग, हवाला लेनदेन और दूसरी वित्तीय अनियमितताओं के लिए एक तरह से मोर्चे के तौर पर काम कर सकती हैं.

FSSAI told Bombay High Court that Old Monk cannot be sold as rum

Lab tests found it is made from neutral spirit with rum flavoring added on top. Matured rum spirit was less than 5% of blend, while label said 7 Years Old Blended. FSSAI says if you start with tasteless ethanol and add flavoring to mimic rum, you are selling flavored spirit, not rum.

Company loses Rs 1 Cr per day since ban. Diageo agreed to change labels on its brands, Old Monk is contesting in court.

This is not just Old Monk. FSSAI banned 10 variants across 3 makers. McDowell No.1 Rum, Antiquity Blue Whisky, Royal Challenge Whisky, Bagpiper Deluxe all got caught using artificial flavoring to mimic taste of real spirits.

India drinks over 440mn 9-liter cases per year. Most of it starts as ENA, which is cheap, colorless, 96% pure ethanol. Entire mass-market IMFL segment depends on it. FSSAI now says sell it if you want, but call it what it is - Flavored spirit, not rum or whisky

Most Indian whisky sold at mass market level is made from sugarcane molasses, not grain that technically makes it rum by international definition.

India is biggest whisky market by volume on Earth, yet most of what sells as whisky here cannot legally be called whisky in Europe or US. Premiumization is slowly changing this.

Amrut and Rampur use grain-based distilling and win global recognition But they serve high end only. For mass IMFL brands built on cheap neutral alcohol and flavoring shortcuts, FSSAI ruling forces expensive choices.

To people celebrating $136B of FCNR flows, I have a few questions.

1. How's inflating FX reserves through $ DEBT a positive? These are borrowed reserves, repayable in Dollars in 3-5 Years.
Instead, if the Government / RBI wanted the flows to come to India, there could have been better and more stable long term approaches like Tax Cuts, Ease of Compliance, Abolition of STT ...

2. The second narrative being floated is it's positive for Banks, as they are flushed with Liquidity.
It's a positive IF the Incremental Credit-Deposit ratio was rising beyond threshold and Banks were facing a liquidity crunch. Which wasn't the case. System liquidity is at 4 year high. Even if it weren't so and Banks had any liquidity constraints, there are cleaner ways to add liquidity, like CRR cuts and all.
A temporary flow of 3-5 years can't fund long term corporate loans or infra projects, so the only use case is retail credit, provided there were enough lending opportunities but lack of liquidity.

In all of this, RBI has taken a Short USD, now a record $136B in the forward book, and for what exactly?

26-year-old Engineering Graduate Akash Delison from Krishnarajapuram in Sivaganga district of Tamil Nadu died because of torture and assault inside the custody of @tnpoliceoffl in March this year.
For over 100 days, his dead body remained in the mortuary of Madurai’s Government Rajaji Hospital as his parents refused to perform his last rites until the guilty police officers were arrested. Later authorities cremated his body on 17th June under a Madras High Court order, despite protests from his family.
Now, Parents of Akash were detained after they attempted to breach Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay's convoy in a frantic bid to stop the chief minister's convoy, apparently to petition him. Needless to add that no Policemen responsible for the murder of Akash were arrested even after 6 months of the incident. What other options do these helpless parents are having to demand Justice For their Son

PS: Tamil Nadu is a notorious state for custodial death and Police brutality.
