Historic Announcement by Honourable Prime Minister of India Shri @narendramodi ji on Public Policy for Amyloidosis:

Thrilled to announce a groundbreaking development in the realm of healthcare in India, spurred by the visionary leadership of our Honourable Prime Minister. In a landmark decision, the Honourable Prime Minister has directed the formulation of a comprehensive public policy for Amyloidosis, a rare disease that affects a significant number of individuals in our country.

The Amyloidosis Support Group of India, in a heartfelt appeal to the Honourable Prime Minister and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, has successfully advocated for key initiatives geared towards combating Amyloidosis in India. These initiatives include, as revealed from the communication from Dr. Amita Bali, Deputy Director General , Directorate General of Health Services, Nirman Bhawan ,New Delhi Dated 5th August,2024:

1. Formation of a Technical Expert Group (TEG)
2. Initiation of the process to designate Amyloidosis as a rare disease.
3. Establishment of Centers of Excellence across India to facilitate specialized clinics and dedicated facilities for the diagnosis.
4. Launch of a National Registry for Amyloidosis patients to streamline screening, workups, classification, diagnosis, prognosis, and management.
5. Organization of a National Symposium on Amyloidosis.
6. Review of key publications such as "Amyloidosis from Mystery to Mastery" and "Holistic Approach to Amyloidosis Treatment" by expert panels in medical colleges to glean insights and recommendations.
7. Engagement of the Ministry of Ayush to evaluate holistic treatment approaches for Amyloidosis recommended by the aforementioned publications.

To propel these initiatives forward, a high-level meeting chaired by the Director General of Health Services will be convened, bringing together experts, support group members, officials from relevant government bodies, and representatives from research institutions. This collaborative forum will assess the progress made thus far and chart a course for the effective implementation of the policy.

This momentous decision by the Honourable Prime Minister underscores the government's unwavering commitment to addressing the challenges posed by rare diseases, particularly Amyloidosis. It heralds a new era of prioritization and action towards finding innovative solutions for the benefit of those affected by this condition.
