Maratha Agitation vs. The Naysayers
Over the last few days, I’ve seen endless posts attacking Maratha protesters in Mumbai:
“They’ve taken the city hostage.”
“They’re barging into malls and shops.”“They’re sleeping at CST station.” “They’re troubling commuters.”
The true roots of the Maratha agitation in Mumbai aren’t being discussed farmers in Marathwada, mostly once counted as Kunbi when the region was part of Hyderabad princely state, were classified as Marathas only after independence and the first census. Today, they are demanding OBC status not for traffic jams, but for justice and recognition of their decades-long struggle.
But the media has lost the plot, focusing only on inconvenience and jams, ignoring the farmers’ crisis that fuels this movement. Law and order is the government’s job. Intelligence reports warned a massive crowd was coming, yet no measures or support were prepared for the protestors.
Manoj Jarange Patil, who is now on the fifth day of his protest and has quit drinking water, still hasn’t received a single visit from the cabinet of Maharashtra government. Maintaining public order and planning is the responsibility of the Maharashtra government, not the Marathas exercising their democratic rights.
Just remember: “अगर रास्ते सुनसान हो जाएं तो संसद आवारा हो जाती है।” The real issue isn’t the protest it’s the government’s failure to care for its citizens. The link to my full YouTube video with facts and history: https://t.co/gUo183uVjF
