In lieu of our usual Control Point (CP) Sundays edition this morning, we have an updated Transformative Rail Vision Map ready (https://t.co/otPONIlKT9), including MTL-TOR HFR, Ethan Allen to BUR, Vermonter to MTL & a couple glaring gaps: Big Sky Explorer to Sandpoint & KNX-CHT.
Derailed Tri-Rail funding back on track
Embattled Tri-Rail, which has been adding riders as its financial future was undercut in Tallahassee, got a new lease on life Friday as next year’s state budget restored $60 million in Florida funding for passenger rail.

If you're going to design a new OKC regional rail system, learning about FrontRunner's clockface frequency & precision, fully-owned railroad & intermodal connections along a similar north-south corridor in Edmond-OKC-Norman to Ogden-SLC-Provo is smart.

@cassetteweed It’s the 1 piece of HSR I would prioritize at a national level. I think I had potentially 14 states benefiting from service through an Appalachian Base Tunnel.
Top NEC corridor extensions (not changing the NEC definition), either AMTK or “commuter”:
1) Allentown/Lehigh Valley
2) Scranton
3) Nashua/Manchester
4) Reading
5) Hagerstown
6) Dover/Salisbury
7) Newport
8) Woonsocket/Worcester
9) Lakewood/Toms River
10) Hudson West Shore
Don't miss our free webinar tomorrow (Friday, June 5) at noon CDT/1p.m. EDT to learn more about the many passenger rail expansion projects underway in North Carolina, with All Aboard North Carolina Chair Beau Mills.

@railforsatx I think we need to include a couple intermediate stops on these routes for some credible case that there’s some benefit to the areas impacted by the infrastructure and not just the massive metro cities, even if not all trains make all stops.
@rvail317 We should walk & chew gum at the same time, especially with the states responsible for new corridor routes, not Amtrak.
Amtrak is doing some catenary upgrades in NJ:

This person is abjectly unqualified to drive a vehicle if they can get from A to B without realizing they’re driving on a railroad.
Hopefully what meager levels of situational awareness were at play could only lead them to keep going until they found somewhere to exit?
@ToddAlanKraft I’m not sure of the point of this link…?
I know they’re not currently doing it. But they have identified it on general possibilities lists of routes they’d like to consider.
This should be Brightline 3.0 if anything made sense. Conservative governments could boast about the private sector. Could eventually link with BL 1.0 at JAX.
There is currently a plan to connect Atlanta and Charlotte with high speed rail in under two hours but our leaders would rather make us spend $350 each way on planes than fund this.
@RonShowATL@the_transit_guy@HowEPhil Would be crucial to get a HSR station directly at Hartsfield - a la Charles de Gaulle or Schiphol - to have maximum utility for Delta.
@hypocane Its financial trouble exists because it had to fund its infrastructure. What I'm suggesting is that the public fund its infrastructure that they build & operate, maybe limited operating subsidy.
@crocsinwinter The D.C. in particular had relatively few historic rail lines to preserve into public ownership compared to their Northeastern counterparts. As others have mentioned, the W&OD was the most significant loss. And routes like the Chesapeake Beach Rwy were and are low population.
@PYZC773 I very much doubt it considering the funding levels and BNSF traffic. Both Borealis and Mardi Gras have experienced strong ridership despite limited schedules.
An initial look at possible Denver-Ft. Collins schedule (from @coloradoan article) for 3 daily roundtrips starting in 2029. Note: schedule could be operated with 1 trainset (with 1-2 others as spares/maintenance). Also, Ft. Collins station location...

@cas1193 Could be Superlinerrs or Talgos (see below), although neither could serve high-level platforms. Maybe they’ll start with temporary low-level platforms and upgrade over time…
