Im so excited. Im on a Taskforce at work to help shape ABA therapy values, ethics, and ensure diverse minds are honored and respected as we help them develop skills with out dishonoring the uniqueness. #abatech#autism#Neurodivergent
Its been a rough 6 months…. Car stolen twice and totaled 2nd time, homeless, breakup, bad vaccine experience, very sick and nearly went to ER, and now a car accident. BUT finally got a new home and I’m moved in!! #Autism#sensory#Stressed#struggles
I say Woman with Autism instead of autistic woman cause I Dont define my identity by my disability but I DO consider it a part of me and its shaped my life experience #ActuallyAutistic#autism#disabilities
2 weeks of solid stress have affected my autism. Easily Overwhelmed, needing fidgets more, impulses to overshare, hard time recalling meds, and 3 near meltdowns. Never been more glad to have amazing support on all sides… partner, friends, and workplace. #mentalhealth#Autism
Works looking for people to do tiktoks about our work in #abatherapy with kids who have #autism I had such fun making one of me packing a reinforcement bag of bubbles, fidgets, playdoh, and other fun stuff we use a lot with our clients #PersonWithAutism#ABAbtTechnician
So lucky to have a partner that accepts my challenges and works with me to grow and better with love and understanding rather then aggression and judgement. #autism#relationships#supportive
Please consider the anxiety of your neighbors when playing loud heavy bass music at night, especially during 4th of july weekend when its likely to be higher then normal #anxiety#autism
Now that i have overcome many food aversions as an adult its time to start slowly transitioning into lower sodium diet habits to be healthier and to support my partners sodium restrictions
We believe My lil client is trying to say all done. So when able we will end the activity and help shape his speech. We need to do his therapy but also teach him his words are valid and his no’s can be respected when appropriate #abatherapy#autism#autonomy
Kitty and me are chilling. Just having our morning cuddles before I face the world. Shes the best emotional support kitty ever and shes about to turn 8 and has been with me since 6 weeks old. #supportanimal#kitty#Autism
One part of ABA therapy is determining what needs to changed or shaped. The individual or their environment. For example teaching a child who takes from peers to share vs introducing an escape from unsettling loud noises #abatherapy#sensory#autism#socialskills
Autism for me involves poor dental care due sensitivities to mint and tools touching my teeth. Autism is different for everyone…. Challenges and strengths. I love the support i get in over coming this.
Autism for me can mean difficulty regulating my eating times and thus maintaining my gut health. Its important, its not the media image of a child whoa screaming and head banging although for some is can be this… this is my autism and its valid. #autism#autismawareness
@TheWondererMas1 However.. those experiences and possible tramuas ARE valid. I am horrified at the ways its been carried out. We are here to help them with support not force, anxiety, and neflect of their individuality
ABA is a tool to teach kids with autism skills needed for life. To communicate, to learn coping skills, to handle things like hairbrushes and toilets without panic, and to be able to handle different foods that could prevent malnourishment. As an #ActuallyAutistic i support ABA
@TheWondererMas1 Like anything there will be people not fit to work with people in the field or just bad providers not monitoring therapy. Also since its done at such a young age personal experiences being shared may be old w/o modern practices aren’t being considered.
I’m open for conversation and questions but if your just gonna call me an abuser don’t waste your breath. Teaching a child to deal with change, something that is unavoidable, is NOT abuse. Its teaching then what ant child learns just with more support. Be respectful or fuck off
@DavidAndrewsRSP I feel its a combination of ignorance both willing and innocent, widespread junk science, and valid but outdated awful personal experiences.... also awful therapy practitioners making us look bad
My current client is adjusting well to ABA. By simple consistent blocking and praise to positive actions he’s stopped throwing items when excited or mad. Instead we’re redirecting this behavior to throwing balls #abatherapy#autism#actuallyaustistic
